Basic Information

The programme aims to provide an integrated Testing & Certification (T&C) training to students, in order to equip them with the knowledge and practical skills to work in the complex and ever-changing environment of the T&C industry. It emphasises on both scientific knowledge and practical skills in four important areas of T&C - integrated science, analytical science, testing technologies, quality control and management - which would allow the graduates to pursue professional careers in the T&C sector.

Professional Recognition

Graduates (depending on their stream) may apply for either the Certified Testing Professional (Chemical Testing) or the Certified Testing Professional (Microbiological Testing) under the Professional Certification Scheme for Testing Personnel, administered by the Hong Kong Association for Testing, Inspection and Certification (HKTIC).

  1. Core modules would be conducted at THEi (Chai Wan) and some General Education (GE) modules at other campuses.

*Upon completion of the Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) programmes, students can progress to Degree programmes in VTC, subject to their BTEC and IGCSE results.
  1. These are the entrance requirements of Year 1 entry.
  2. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively (for 2024 HKDSE and before). One Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose. Recognition of Other Language subject (Category C subjects) in 2025 HKDSE will be announced later.
  3. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose. The results of relevant ApL subjects will be considered in the application for Degree programmes. Relevant ApL subjects include: Medical Laboratory Science, Food Innovation and Science.
  4. An “Attained” in HKDSE Citizenship and Social Development is regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at “Level 2” for admission purpose.
  5. HKDSE Liberal Studies at Level 2 or above will be recognised for meeting the subject requirement of Citizenship and Social Development.

Articulation / Employment

Articulation
Graduates are able to articulate to Master’s programmes in analytical science, chemical science, microbiological science or other T&C related areas.
Career Prospects
Graduates will be qualified for supervisory and technical duties in the T&C industry, including Technical Assistants, Quality Assurance Assistants and Chemists. They can advance to managerial positions, such as Senior Chemist, Technical Consultant, Technical Managers, Product Safety Engineers, Petrochemicals Analysts, Gemologist and Microbiologist, with accumulated working experience and professional qualifications.

Remarks
  1. The study duration of Degree programmes is normally 4 years. The tuition fees of Degree programmes are charged according to the number of credit points taken during a semester. Students have to complete at least 120 to 132 credit points for graduation.
  2. In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money, students’ union entrance fees and annual fee.
  3. Depending on the requirements of individual programmes, students may be required to attend additional training / industrial attachments, for which separate fees will be charged.

Students visited SGS and some factories in Germany and joined the 3rd International Conference and Exhibition on Advances in Chromatography & HPLC Techniques to acquire updated analytical methods' theories and applications in the study tour to Germany.
