Part 4 77 VPET SERVICES 4.45 The WSC aims to promote: • vocational and professional education and training; • the free exchange of information on matters pertaining to vocational training; • the exchange of experience between young professionals and training staff of member countries and regions; and • the social status of professional staff and vocational training. 4.46 Participating in the WSC since 1997, Team Hong Kong has won a total of three Gold, one Silver and five Bronze prizes, and 71 Medallions for Excellence. In the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition held during September – November 2022, Hong Kong won one Gold Medal and 12 Medallions for Excellence, which has surpassed past records for Hong Kong. 4.47 The next WorldSkills Competition will be held in Lyon, France during 10 – 15 September 2024. WORLDSKILLS HONG KONG COMPETITION 4.48 The WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition (WHKC) is a multi- disciplinary event held biennially. It is jointly organised by VTC, the Clothing Industry Training Authority (CITA) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC), with strong support from the Government, industry, commerce, and tertiary institutions. The competition encompasses different trade skills in six areas: Construction and Building Technology; Creative Arts and Fashion; Information and Communications Technology; Manufacturing and Engineering Technology; Social and Personal Services; and Transportation and Logistics. 4.49 To prepare for the WorldSkills Competition, the WHKC 2023 was organised during April – August 2023 to identify potential competitors for further training and selection to represent Hong Kong in WorldSkills Lyon 2024. A wide spectrum of young talents, including VTC students / trainees, apprentices, secondary school students, university students, and working young adults participated in the event. The winners of WHKC will receive intensive skills training of respective trades; while various soft skills training sessions would be provided to enhance the competitors’ social skills and personal readiness. To widen the exposure of competitors, opportunities would be provided for them to join online / overseas skills exchange activities collaborated with other WorldSkills Members / industry partners.
