Part 4 76 VOCATIONAL TRAINING COUNCIL 4.41 Currently, VTC is offering VA in Beauticians, Hair Stylists and Chainsaw Operators in Arboriculture. The Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section of the Development Bureau requires all workers undertaking tree pruning works involving the use of chainsaw for Government contracts to pass the Arboriculture Vocational Assessment (AVA) or possess equivalent qualifications. Besides, AVA qualification holders are eligible to register as Registered Chainsaw Operators under the Government’s Registration Scheme for Tree Management Personnel. Since the launch of AVA in 2014, about 340 candidates have taken the assessment. 4.42 In collaboration with the Guangdong Occupational Skill Service and Instruction Centre and Labour Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR, the “One Examination, Multiple Certification” System was launched for Beauticians and Hair Stylists. Candidates passing the relevant assessments will be awarded professional certification from Vocational Assessment of Hong Kong, Certificate of Occupational Skill Level of the Mainland China and Occupational Skills Certificate of Macao. Up to the end of May 2023, about 2,760 candidates had taken the assessments. SKILLS COMPETITIONS WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION 4.43 WorldSkills Competition (WSC), organised by the WorldSkills International (WSI), is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world with the aim of uplifting professional skills standards and raising the awareness of vocational education and skills training across the world. Hong Kong is a member of the WSI and has participated in the WSC since 1997. 4.44 The WSC is held biennially and the competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skills competitions in WorldSkills Member countries and regions. They demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and/or perform in their workplace.
