Introduction
The Language Centre was set up as an independent teaching unit in September
1999, providing language modules (English,
Chinese and Putonghua) for a student population of over 2,000 from the Departments
of Business Services and Management,
Information and Communications Technology, Construction and Engineering. Through
its tailor-made teaching programmes,
students are helped to enhance their language proficiency in general and acquire
vocational language skills for the workplace.
The Centre is staffed with 20 well-qualified and resourceful language teaching
professionals. They assess the situation, exercise
professional judgement and decide on teaching materials and strategies to meet
students' needs and learning styles. Classes are
conducted in a variety of formats: lectures, group discussions, role-play, pair-work,
presentations, projects, etc.
The Centre is equipped with excellent facilities: 3 multi-media language laboratories
with 44, 44 and 20 booths respectively and
an Independent Language Learning Centre.
