Language Laboratories

We have one conventional and two newly installed multi-media language laboratories. They equipped with sophisticated and yet user-friendly equipment including audio and video cassette players, presentation stands and personal computers for both teaching and self-access purposes. In the lessons, students practise various language skills individually or interact with their tutor or among themselves. In their free time, they may book their private sessions and practise on their own, either listening to tapes or self-accessing audio-visual programmes from the computer.

Our section provides taught units in

*  English and Communication Studies
*  Putonghua
*  Practical Chinese Communication

Though the thrust of our work lies in English language teaching, courses in Chinese communication as well as Putonghua are gaining increasing importance in our teaching programmes.
 

Independent Language Learning Centre

The Independent Language Learning Centre aims at creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere in which students can self-access language programmes and go about learning on their own in their own time and at their own pace. Multi-media packages which are CDRoms such as film videos, audio tapes, grammar worksheets, language learning games, newspapers, magazines and so on are available. As self-learning is an integral part of the courses, students are encouraged to use the Centre's facilities intensively. At present, the Centre is visited by about 100 students every day.
