    Lecturer (Civil Engineering)
    School for Higher and Professional Education (Tsing Yi)

    The School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) is a self-financed arm of the Vocational Training Council (VTC).  It offers top-up bachelor degree programmes to VTC’s Higher Diploma graduates and other sub-degree holders in collaboration with overseas universities.  Applications are now invited for the Lecturer (Civil Engineering) post at SHAPE.
     
    Major Duties:
    (a) To perform teaching duties including supervision of students’ projects and provide academic leadership in at least THREE of the following subject areas:
      (i) Construction Management
    (ii) Geotechnical Engineering
    (iii) Infrastructure Management
    (iv) Structural Engineering
    (v) Transport Engineering
    (vi) Stormwater and Water Management
    (vii) Sustainable Design
    (b) In the capacity of Programme Coordinator, to assist in planning and deploying resources for top-up degree programmes, implementing the relevant quality assurance policy, and assisting in validation and accreditation of programmes;
    (c) To liaise with overseas universities in matters relating to effective delivery of individual top-up degree programmes;
    (d) To develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment materials;
    (e) To work closely with SHAPE offices and other operational units in the promotion and operations of top-up degree programmes;
    (f) To initiate, develop and render services to facilitate students’ learning; and
    (g) To carry out duties in relation to students, academic administration and networking with industry / industrial attachments, departmental projects and functions, including but not limited to consultancy services, research studies, seminars and exhibitions.
       
    Requirements:
    (a) A recognised master’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent, preferably with a doctorate degree or a relevant professional qualification in related discipline;
    (b) At least 4 years’ relevant work experience and/or teaching experience at tertiary / degree level, preferably in research / dissertation / project supervision and in providing advice and coaching in academic writing;
    (c) Good academic networking capability;
    (d) Preferably familiar with and experience in top-up degree programme design, development, coordination, students admission, assessment & reporting, accreditation, and implementation of quality assurance policies;
    (e) Good understanding of the development of top-up degree programmes; and
    (f) Good administrative, presentation, interpersonal, communication and team building skills with a high level of proficiency in both English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua.
       
    Notes:
    (1) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic/professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic/professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
    (2) Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment.
    (3) The initial posting is in SHAPE (Tsing Yi).
    (4) The appointee(s) may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and/or outside campus.
    (5) The post is time-limited in nature, up to 31 August 2025 initially, and the continued need for the post is subject to review.
