Wofoo Foundation Dr Joseph Lee
Whole Person Development Education Centre

Whole person development and soft skills like team spirit, leadership, problem-solving, communication, innovative thinking are becoming more crucial for one to prevail in career nowadays. Here in VTC, we places much emphasis on the all-round development of our students. Besides providing quality education on professional knowledge and skills, all full-time programmes are incorporated with whole person development modules with the aim to nurturing students’ values in life and their social responsibility through the various leadership training and diversified study experiences. To even better support the education, the “Wofoo Foundation Dr Joseph Lee Whole Person Development Education Centre” (‘WPDEC’) was opened in December 2012.

WPDEC, located at Tai Lam Chung, is well-equipped with multi-purpose rooms, high and low adventure-based elements, rock climbing, aided-climbing facility, outdoor high wall as well as abseiling facility, making it an excellent venue for student and adults’ adventure training. The most one of its kind facility, is the Hong Kong’s first mock-up ship structure for rope course activities. The massive ship prominently seen from the entrance is 40m long and 17m tall, with the capacity to allow 40 participants to use at the same time.

All adventure-based activities in the WPDEC are tailor-made by the teachers especially trained for developing and conducting holistic development programmes meeting the different learning objectives. All teachers are well-versed in outdoor activity trainings, canoeing, rock climbing, rope climbing, mountaineering etc. Customized activities include maritime-themed tasks, such as submarine leakage system for damage control exercise to build up teamwork, dark cage and tunnel system for rescue operation to illustrate the importance of cooperation, rope access equipment installed to simulate the maritime operation of a sailing boat.

The WPDEC is named after Dr Joseph LEE, Deputy Chairman of the VTC as a gratitude to his long-term support to our students and the contribution to the VTC Student Development Foundation. The Student Development Foundation is established to support the developmental needs of VTC’s 50,000 plus full-time students. Many of them come from humble family backgrounds and yet demonstrate qualities where a widening learning opportunity can make a difference in capitalizing their potentials.
