Part 4 68 VOCATIONAL TRAINING COUNCIL Diploma of Vocational Education – Earn and Learn Scheme (DVE-ELS) Programmes 4.11 Diploma of Vocational Education – Earn and Learn Scheme (DVE- ELS) programmes are offered in support of apprenticeship training. The programmes integrate structured classroom learning with on-the-job training and are flexibly designed to cater for specific needs of different industries. The programmes aim to provide young people with a clear career progression pathway and prepare them to join those trades with great manpower demand. Students can register as apprentice and join the DVE- ELS programmes after completion of one-year full-time study at YC. It usually takes two years to obtain the DVE-ELS award in the part-time day study mode. Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate Programmes 4.12 The Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) programmes are offered at YC(INTL). They are 3-year programmes designed for Secondary 3 school leavers to prepare them for recognised qualifications for flexible articulation to higher education locally or overseas. The broad-based curriculum combines generic, vocational and whole person development modules, helping students to build a solid foundation for further studies and a professional career. 4.13 DVB programmes are delivered in English. Taking reference from local and international standards, these programmes adopt the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Level 3 Extended Diploma studies in the fields of Design, Engineering or Sport, and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in the areas of English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics. Diploma and Certificate Programmes 4.14 HTI, CCI and ICI offer a wide range of diploma and certificate programmes, covering two streams: i) Hotel and Tourism, and ii) Culinary, for students’ selection according to their personal interests and development plans.
