Part 3 40 VOCATIONAL TRAINING COUNCIL 3.17 HKDI brings together the strengths of its four design departments – Architecture, Interior and Product Design, Communication Design, Digital Media and Fashion and Image Design – to offer a wide-ranging higher diploma and Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes. The curricula are designed to ensure relevance and responsiveness to the latest industry development, preparing students for work-readiness with socially conscious solutions. The design programmes aim to nurture adaptive talents with distinctive creativity, analytical ability, critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills, who embrace cultural sensitivity, a sense of sustainability and a global perspective. The institute actively collaborates with international academics, providing students with opportunities to acquire hands-on experience at renowned international institutions, expand their horizons, and gain first-hand knowledge of the most updated industry trends. HKDI’s six Knowledge Centres, namely Centre for Communication Design, Centre of Design Services and Solutions, Centre of Innovative Material and Technology, Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability Lab, Fashion Archive and Media Lab also offer students a multidisciplinary learning experience through collaborative projects, applied research, seminars, events, competitions, and other formats with industry partners. HONG KONG INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 3.18 As promulgated in the 2023 Policy Address, the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT)[1] has been established on 1 November 2023. HKIIT, aspiring to be a distinguished and reputable provider of information technology (IT) education in the region, strives to nurture IT talents to enhance Hong Kong’s competitive advantage in IT and foster a skilled workforce in Hong Kong. HKIIT is dedicated to providing comprehensive support of manpower training to the Government’s innovation and technology policies, as well as facilitating the digital transformation of various industries. 3.19 In order to provide learners with the latest knowledge and skills required for this rapidly changing career environment, a comprehensive suite of IT programmes has been designed by HKIIT, covering the areas of information and communications technology (ICT) and multimedia and entertainment technology (MET). ICT programmes enable learners to develop and administer various innovation and creative applications and solution platforms, as well as computer servers, communication networks, software development, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, data science, cybersecurity and smart technologies, whereas MET programmes prepare 1 Subject to the approval of Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, the relevant IT and technology programmes currently offered by IVE will be transitioned to HKIIT starting from AY 2024/25.
