    Assistant Librarian
    Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi)
     
    Department / Section : Learning Resources Centre

    Major Duties:
    (a)
     
    To catalogue and classify books and materials in printed and electronic formats, including original and copy cataloguing; 
    (b)
     
    To acquire resources for the Learning Resources Centre (LRC) and development of different formats of learning resources;
    (c) To manage serial collections and assist in e-learning support;
    (d) To provide reference services to LRC users and managing circulation services;
    (e) To plan and deliver LRC orientations and workshops, and assist in promotion and implementation of user services;
    (f) To plan, budget and administer LRC projects;
    (g) To tabulate and evaluate statistics on usage of LRC service;
    (h) To oversee operations of Technical or Reader Services of LRC;
    (i)
     
    To manage and develop e-library equipment, such as Smart Locker, SIP2 SelfCheck System, Internet of Thing (IoT) devices, 3D printers, Laser Cutter, UV printer, video streaming devices and Jamf iOS reborn systems;
    (j)
     
    To participate strongly in planning and implementing Library IT initiatives and in devising policies and procedures for IT provisions in Library; and
    (k)
     
    To educate Library staff on new technology and implementation such as Artificial Intelligent (AI) trends in library setting.
       
    Requirements:
    (a)
     
    A recognised degree in Librarianship, or Associateship of the Library Association, or a Post-Graduate Diploma in Librarianship, or a Master’s Degree in Library Science, or equivalent; 
    (b)
     
    At least 2 years' experience in developing automated smart devices (IoT) and e-library applications in academic libraries;
    (c) Practical knowledge in Alma Library System management and its API applications;
    (d) Good communication, interpersonal, administrative, problem solving and organisation skills; and
    (e) Good command of spoken and written Chinese and English, preferably including Putonghua.
       
    Notes:
    (1)
     
    The initial posting is in IVE (Tsing Yi). The appointee(s) may be posted to other work locations to suit the operational needs.
    (2)

     
    Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
    (3)
     
    The appointee will be required to work irregular hours or shifts and perform duties on Saturdays or Sundays as necessary.
