    Part-time (Daytime) Lecturer (Illustration)

    The School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) is a self-financed arm of the Vocational Training Council (VTC). It offers top-up bachelor degree programmes to VTC’s Higher Diploma graduates and other sub-degree holders in collaboration with overseas universities.  Applications are now invited for part-time (Daytime) Lecturer posts for the programme of BA (Hons) Illustration offered at SHAPE (DILWL) in the academic year 2025/26.
     
    Subject Area:
    Illustration
    - Hand-drawn and Digital Illustrations
    - Editorial and Conceptual Illustration
    - Narrative Illustration and Picture Book Design
    - Comics, Manga and Graphic Novel
    - Character Design and Concept Art for movies, animations and video games
    - Storyboard, Hand-drawn and Digital Visualization
    - Informative Illustration and Graphic Design
    - Personal visual language and sketchbook development
    - Live drawing, painting and quick sketching techniques
     
    Major Duties:
    (a) To conduct lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and project supervision at the bachelor’s degree level;
    (b) To carry out academic-related administration duties, including setting and marking assignments, moderation, and serving in academic and other related meetings;
    (c) To conduct live demonstrations of different types of hand-drawn and digital illustration techniques;
    (d) To develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment materials;
    (e) To introduce the standards and requirements for different types of professional illustrations;
    (f) To coordinate guest lectures; and
    (g) To participate in school projects and functions, where necessary.
       
    Requirements:
    (a) A recognised master’s degree in relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional qualification in the relevant subject areas;
    (b) At least 4 years’ relevant teaching experience at tertiary / work experience in the respective field(s);
    (c) Be familiar with the history and overall development of global illustrations and have a deep understanding of local illustration culture and market;
    (d) With extensive experience in narrative, conceptual and informative illustration. Experience in specialty areas such as murals, 3D trick art, fashion illustration, architectural illustration, wildlife art and paleontology illustration is preferred;
    (e) Candidate(s) with work experience in advertising agencies, graphic design companies or publishing houses are preferred;
    (f) In addition to illustration knowledge, candidates have experience in fine art creation, and experience in fine art exhibitions is preferred;
    (g) Candidate(s) with core membership of professional bodies such as the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators will be given preference;
    (h) Good communication and presentation skills in English;
    (i) Good interpersonal skills; and
    (j) Preference will be given to candidate(s) with teaching experience in tertiary education.
