Nurturing 21st Century
Work-ready Talent
In 2015/16, over 5,000 students
visited the Mainland as part of
outbound exchange activities under
different schemes, including the Pilot
Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-
Secondary students.
Learning Overseas
Over 3,000 students travelled overseas
to participate in exchange programmes,
including some who spent a full
semester at their host institutions in
Australia, Japan and the UK. Other
popular destinations for visits were
Germany, Singapore, South Korea,
Spain and Taiwan.
The experience of these fruitful
exchanges with overseas countries
and regions enables VTC students
to develop essential knowledge,
competence and creative thinking skills
with international exposure.
Whole Person Development
for Transferable Skills
To extend students’ learning beyond
the classroom and further develop their
potential, a series of cross-campus
projects was organised for students.
In the past year, some 12,000 Diploma
of Foundation Studies and Higher
Diploma (HD) students joined different
projects according to their personal
interests and development needs.
These included VCare, a social service
programme to promote volunteerism
in which over 500 students were
inculcated with a caring attitude and
received training that enabled them to
design 25 service learning projects for
the under-privileged in society. Another
programme, Speak for Success, helped
students enhance their communication
skills and build resilience. In 2015/16,
over 1,400 students joined various
workshops and seminars to enhance
their Chinese and English oratory and
presentation skills.
The challenge-based programme Road
to Marathon is aimed at building
students’ resilience and perseverance
through intensive training to prepare
for long-distance running events.
Some 450 students participated in
26 long-distance races. In addition,
30 students participated in the Korea
Gyeongju Cherry Marathon Tour 2016.
Skills Competitions
The VTC encourages students to
participate in local, regional and global
competitions, which provide them with
opportunities to hone their skills and
gain international exposure.
In August 2015, a Hong Kong team
including VTC students and alumni
took part in the 43rd WorldSkills
Competition held in São Paulo, Brazil,
and brought home seven Medallions
for Excellence.
