Introduction

The Department offers a wide range of IT related courses in both full-time and part-time evening modes leading to Certificate, Diploma and Higher Certificate qualifications.

Most courses are computer-based, practical in nature, and are designed to develop knowledge, skills and experience in using the software tools, techniques and methods appropriate for the applications, development and support of various types of computer systems. The communication-based course prepares students to develop and administer the communications networks.

Currently, our department offers courses in the following areas: Computer Systems Administration (CSA), Software Engineering (SE), and Telecommunications & Networking (T&N).

The CSA course aims to provide students with a practical grounding in the administration of computer systems of different types. Graduates of the course will be able to set up, maintain and support local area networks together with the associated hardware and software and to support the development and integration of applications systems in commercial organizations.

The SE course aims to provide students with a practical grounding in software systems development, with emphasis on the design and quality of the software being produced. Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to apply proven principles and techniques to the creation, development and support of software systems in commercial organizations.

The T&N course aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work in the exciting field of communications. Graduates of the course will be able to install, maintain and support the telecommunications system / network. Practical work on the course will be based on recognized trade certificates so that skills are of direct relevance to industry practice.
