VTC Central Admission Centres draw over 2,000 applicants

To tie in with the result announcement of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) today (30 June), the Vocational Training Council (VTC) set up 2 Central Admission Centres for HKALE candidates to apply for the 2-year higher diploma programmes of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) in a row of 3 days. As at 6 pm today, a visitors’ flow of 2,200 was recorded, registering a 10% increase over that of last year, and some 1,000 places have been offered to HKALE candidates, which was same as last year.

LEUNG Yam-shing, VTC Education Advisor, said higher diploma programmes were popular among Secondary 7 students. He encouraged students to pursue professional training on their interests and recommended them to seize the opportunity to apply at the Central Admission Centre in the coming 2 days.
The Central Admission Centre at IVE (Haking Wong) would open for tomorrow (1 July) and the day after (2 July). Secondary 7 graduates who had made late applications on or after 15 June and those who had not applied before could visit the Centre to apply for courses of their choice. They would be interviewed and notified of the admission results on the spot.
The VTC also mounted hotlines and info-stations to answer the enquiries of students on progression.
In the 2011/2012 academic year, the IVE and the HKDI offered some 2,000 places of over 40 two-year higher diploma courses suitable for Secondary 7 graduates. Courses offered spanned across 7 major disciplines with a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical training. Language competency and whole person development aside, the IVE and the HKDI provide attachment training for most of the courses to enable students to gain real life working experiences that will then enhance their employability.
The 2-year higher diploma courses required of applicants 1 A-Level subject at Grade E or above; or 2 AS-Level subjects at Grade E or above in HKALE and 5 HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language, or equivalent. Applicants should present their result statements of the HKCEE and the HKALE for verification.

The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) is a member of VTC Group. The 9 IVE campuses are located across the territory. Together they provide vocational education for post-secondary 7 and 5 students as well as people in employment. IVE courses leading to the award of higher diploma, diploma or foundation diploma cover various academic disciplines including Applied Science; Business Administration; Child Education and Community Services; Information Technology; Engineering; and Hotel, Service and Tourism Studies.

The Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is a member of VTC Group. HKDI was established in 2007 with the mission to be a leading provider of design education and lifelong learning.
