Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources Centre Naming Ceremony
    VTC receives $6.5 million donations

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has received a donation of HK$6.5 million from the Rotary International District 3450 to establish the “Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship” supporting the learning needs of VTC students and encouraging aspiring students to pursue vocational education and training (VET). In recognition of the contribution of Rotary International District 3450 to VET, the learning resources centre of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education IVE (Sha Tin) will be named the Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources Centre hereafter.

Starting AY 2015/16, fifty VTC Foundation Diploma, Higher Diploma and Degree students with financial needs will be subsidised for their studies by the newly-established Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship.

At the Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources Centre Naming Ceremony, VTC Chairman Dr Clement CHEN said, “Thanks to the staunch support and generous donations of our partners, VTC has successfully trained up countless professional personnel. Among these, Rotary International District 3450 has collaborated with VTC for a number of years donating scholarships and giving out generous donations for other purposes. We must thank them for supporting VTC students to strive and thrive, acquiring expertise for future success.”

Rotary District Governor Belinda YEUNG said the donation dovetailed with the message of Rotary International District 3450 this year, namely “Light Up Rotary”. As the Buddhists had said, contributions for good causes would be reciprocated and donations and social services would itself turn into light and warmth extending to the needy.

Rotary International District 3450 has all along supported VTC to drive VET through establishing scholarships and bursaries and upgrading campus facilities. Various chapters of Rotaract have been established in different VTC campuses engaging students in social services. With the signing of the donation agreement between VTC and Rotary International District 3450 last September, VTC has since received a total of HK$6.5 million to set up the Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship.

Established in 1982, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is the largest vocational education, training and professional development group in Hong Kong with some 250,000 students and trainees each year.
