Message from Department Head

Welcome to the Department of Engineering (ENG) at IVE (Morrison Hill)! Good afternoon!

The Department, which was formerly the Department of Real Estate and Facilities Management, was established in 2002 in response to the increasing manpower demand of Hong Kong and China in the areas of Real Estate Management, Facilities Management, and Building Services Engineering. Besides satisfying the manpower needs of Hong Kong and China, equally important, we educate and train young people to enable them to unleash their potentials in both personal and academic developments and lead them to the professional discipline which they find interested.

We adopt an experiential approach in education and training. To facilitate student learning processes, we have established dedicated partnerships and networks with the industry to provide placement opportunities for our students. Through these placement opportunities, students experience real-life work environment under the guidance of their industrial and academic supervisors. In addition, there is a good variety of departmental and campus-wide extra-curricular activities for students to part-take, e.g. Occupational Safety & Health Quiz and Cross-border Visits. These experiences certainly enhance students' life skills and employability upon graduation.

Today, life-long learning is of paramount importance to a knowledge based society such as Hong Kong. Our programmes are developed with the necessary theoretical and academic components required for articulation purposes. In addition, our Department has articulation arrangements with other universities. Upon graduation, students may choose to further their studies, either on a full-time or part-time basis, at a local university or to study overseas.

As a student of this Department, you will find our academic and supporting colleagues caring, professional and committed. Colleagues in this Department are encouraged to enhance and upkeep their knowledge, mindset and professionalism through staff training and development programmes which form part of the Council policy.

From our departmental web site, you will learn more about the wide range of our programmes and the wonderful school life of our students. Please visit our section on Course Information to learn more about our programmes and future plans. We hope you will find the information interesting and useful.
