Rotary’s scholarship supports the progression ladder for VPET students

Around 20 students celebrated their achievement in the 3rd Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Award Presentation Ceremony held on 25th October. The Scholarship is set up to support students to further their study with the progression ladder of the vocational and professional education and training (VPET) from Diploma, Higher Diploma to Degree levels in VTC. Awardees were granted a scholarship ranging from $10,000 to $35,000 in recognition of their academic attainments and contribution in community service over the past academic year.

With the staunch support of Rotary International District 3450, over 120 students have been awarded under the Scholarship scheme since its inception in 2015. 25 new and about 30 renewal scholarship awards were distributed in AY2017/18.

In memory of Dr. Chow Yei Ching, GBS, OBE, LLD (Hon)
 
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Chow Yei, Ching, GBS, OBE, LLD (Hon), Chairman Emeritus of the Chevalier Group on 29 July 2018.  In 2004, Dr Y C Chow, founder of the Group, was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Government of the HKSAR for his great contribution in the commercial sector, passion in educating the younger generation, as well as enthusiasm in promoting commercial and cultural ties between Hong Kong and other countries.  Chevalier Group has established the "Chevalier Culture & Education Foundation" which fosters cultural, academic, artistic and educational exchanges among Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Chevalier Culture and Education Foundation offers scholarships to Higher Diploma students from The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and Diploma of Vocational Education students from Youth College in the Engineering Discipline.  The scholarship aims to award the students with good standard of academic performance.  Chevalier pledges to support young generation through financing education programs of all kinds and various scholarship schemes.

Dr. Chow supported for education programs and played an important part in effecting a positive change to our young people.

The Classic Car Club of Hong Kong Supported Study Trip to Germany

The Classic Car Club of Hong Kong sponsored Diploma and Higher Diploma students in automotive studies to participate in the learning trip to Germany.

Throughout the 9-days’ experiential learning trip in Stuttgart, Germany, students visited Mercedes Benz Museum, Porsche Museum, Benz Passenger Car Factory, Benz Commercial Vehicle Factory, interacted with students of University of Stuttgart and attended a workshop at the Lucas-Nülle Automobile Training Center, giving them the opportunities to enhance their professional knowledge and skills to motor vehicle servicing and automotive engineering so as to prepare for their future careers.

The post-trip sharing session was held on 10 July with students shared their Germany learning trip experience, insights and thanked to the Classic Car Club of Hong Kong’ generosity support to provide them with opportunities to broaden their horizon and international exposure.

In memory of Dr. Tin Ka Ping

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Tin Ka Ping, the renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist and founder of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, on 10 July 2018. Dr. Tin was always remembered by his selfless dedication to education and devotion to promote local and Mainland educational development.

Dr. Tin supported Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) in the past years with his utmost effort and generously sponsored Diploma of Vocational Education students from Youth College to participate in an academic exchange programme in Guangxi since 2016. The AY17/18 programme aimed to enhance students’ presentation skills in Cantonese, Putonghua and English through a speech competition, which the students shared their personal experience with teachers and students from Mainland. Students also benefited in whole person development and deepened their friendship with Guangxi students.

Dr. Tin Ka Ping will ever be fondly remembered for his vision, dedication to education and motto “After establishing yourself, help establishing others”.

Speak for Success Programme to nurture future leaders

The 2017/18 Sharing Session cum Award Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 22 June and marked the completion in this academic year for the Speak for Success Programme, a student development programme supported by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited since 2014.  60 students with outstanding performance and significant improvement were recognised with the “Best Performance” and “Best Improvement” awards.  Moreover, 9 winning student teams from IVE campuses were awarded the “Best Presentation Team” prizes. 
 
With 9 months of training including drama workshops, presentation skill talks, social mingling sessions and other team-building activities, the Programme enhanced the communication and collaboration skills of VTC students studying Higher Diploma and Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes.  With improved public speaking and presentation competencies, the participating students are well boosted for their employment readiness and confidence equipped for leadership in the future.
 
Since the launch of the Programme, more than 3,100 students were benefitted, and about a thousand students completed the Programme this academic year, logging the ever highest number of participation.

HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship to award outstanding performance

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) for its establishment of the HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship.  The Scholarship was set up to recognise the Higher Diploma or equivalent students for their excellence in academic achievement and whole person development, especially in their vocational aspirations and commitment to Hong Kong.  This year, 19 VTC students were awarded the Scholarship in the HSBC Scholars Day held on 15 June, and a scholarship amount of $20,000 was presented to each of the awardees.

Innovation x Application Scheme 2.0

The Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council Foundation generously sponsored to set up the Innovation x Application Scheme 2.0 (Scheme) aiming to unleash students’ creative and innovative talents and explore commercialisation opportunity through competition. On 1st June, the Final Pitching and Award Presentation of the Scheme was held at HKDI VTC Auditorium where 350+ students and esteemed guests witnessed the event.

The Scheme supported a competition this academic year to attract 27 enthusiastic student teams from various disciplines competing for trophies, of which 6 of them were shortlisted and passed the qualifying finals. They subsequently underwent a series of intensive training including prototyping, writing up business plans and brushing up their presentation skills. Finally, the IVE-Shatin team successfully clinched the championship with their project “Time Traveller – Life Education x Escape Room” which was designed using participatory education approach. The victorious IVE-Shatin team, together with other two medalists, were awarded financial support from the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council Foundation, achieving their entrepreneurial dreams.

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Student Industrial Attachment Programme for Tertiary Institutions 2018

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce continued to support VTC students to attend industrial attachment programmes in the Mainland in 2018.

The Chamber held a kick-off ceremony for its industrial attachment programme on 4 May 2018. This year, the Chamber allocated fund to sponsor a total of 150 degree students of civil engineering and higher diploma students of aircraft maintenance engineering undertook industrial attachment at the Zhuhai, Guangzhou, or Xiamen. Throughout the programmes with cultural visits, expert talks and exchange activities, students can widen their exposure in the latest development of their profession and experience the Mainland way of life.

VTC 35th Anniversary Events

Under the theme of “Creating Values, Perfecting Skills”, a series of events and activities to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) were held in 2017, including the Fundraising Concert, Alumni Reunion Reception and Tribute Dinner. Thanks to the unwavering support from friends of the VTC, the fund raised in the Concert and Tribute Dinner will support the VTC Student Development Foundation for the development needs of VTC students. The Foundation has subsidized the participation of more than 6,000 students in over 300 overseas exchange programmes, and will continue to nurture excellence for more students in the years to come.

American Women’s Association Scholarship

Sincerest thanks to American Women’s Association (AWA) over the years, more than 500 VTC students were granted the AWA Scholarship since establishment.  This Scholarship aims to recognise meritorious students with leadership qualities and provide financial support to needy students in pursuing professional development at VTC.  In the academic year 2016/17, a total of 25 students studying in business, engineering, computing, hospitality, design, chemical technology, banking and finance, dispensing studies, beauty care at Foundation Diploma, Diploma and Higher Diploma levels received the Scholarships.

The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades & Industries Ltd. – Dr. Samson Sun Scholarship

With the generous donation from The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Charitable Trust and its Permanent Honorary President Dr. Samson Sun, “The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades & Industries Ltd. – Dr. Samson Sun Scholarship” is established to sponsor students from watch and clock related programmes for overseas training and further studies. 
 
From AY2017/18, the Scholarship will support 10 outstanding students in the Earn and Learn Scheme for Watch and Clock Industry to attend short-term industrial attachment and training in Switzerland for broadening their horizon on supreme watch making skills, and another 30 Diploma of Vocational Education (Watch and Clock) graduates to further their study at Higher Diploma related programmes offered by VTC.  To acknowledge the generosity, an appreciation plaque will be installed at the Watch Assembly Workshop in the ProAct Training and Development Centre (Precision Engineering) at VTC Kowloon Complex.
 
The Federation has a long established relationship with VTC, and set up this Scholarship in commemoration of its 70th anniversary this year.   Professor Chung Chi Kit, Deputy Executive Director of VTC, attended the Federation’s 70th anniversary ceremony on 9 March and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Federation and Dr. Sun for their generous donation and longstanding support.

Tin Ka Ping Foundation Supported Academic Exchange with Vocational Colleges in Guangxi
 
Tin Ka Ping Foundation generously sponsored Youth College students to participate in an academic exchange programme with vocational colleges in Guangxi in 2016, and a reciprocal visit of the students to VTC.

The Programme supported 20 DVE students of Youth College to undertake a weeklong exchange visit to four vocational colleges in Guangxi Province in July. In reciprocal, our student ambassadors welcomed Guangxi vocational college student and teacher’s visit in December, and joined in an adventure-based team-building programme at the Whole Person Development Education Centre and an English programme on campus. Students have widened their perspectives on vocational education and gained friendships with vocational college students from Guangxi.

With these successful experiences, we are looking forward to organising more and richer exchange programmes with colleges in the Mainland.

Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarship (OIAS) Award Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony 2016/17
 
The Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarship (OIAS) Award Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony 2016/17 was held on 19 November 2016 at the Wu Jieh Yee Memorial Hall, IVE (Chai Wan). Three hundred students were awarded with scholarships worth $700,000 in total. Dr. Lee Yuk Lun, JP, the President of the Hong Kong Commerce & Industry Association and the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, officiated at the ceremony. Dr. Lee shared his personal experience with the awardees and wish them a brilliant future. With the generous donations from industrialists and employers, more than 2,000 students have been awarded since the inception in 2007.

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Student Industrial Attachment Programme for Tertiary Institutions 2016
 
The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce has generously sponsored VTC students to attend industrial attachment programmes in the Mainland in summer 2016.

A total of 22 higher diploma students of Applied Science undertook a month-long industrial attachment at the Zhongshan Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.  Another 31 higher diploma students of Information Technology were posted to an authentic working environment in a leading 3D animation game developer in Shanghai.

Both trips provided company and cultural visits, expert talks and exchange activities with local students, which enriched students’ exposure in the latest development of their profession, social network and understanding of culture in the Mainland.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Vocational Education Scholarship
 
The Hong Kong Jockey Club is committed to the youth development in Hong Kong.  It encourages young people to not only chase their dreams and dedicate their passion to professional development, but also give back to the industry in the future and pay it forward, so as to spark a chained and magnified impact on the society. 
 
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for establishing “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Vocational Education Scholarship” to support the further studies of VTC students.  Starting from 2016/17, the scholarship has supported two VTC Higher Diploma graduates per academic year to pursue overseas undergraduate studies in the fields of aviation / marine engineering or design, covering tuition fees, accommodation fees, living expenses, air fares and expenses on study trips / field trips for a maximum of three years.  In addition, the scholarship will also provide full tuition fees to 14 Youth College graduates of Diploma of Vocational Education every year to pursue Higher Diploma studies at VTC.  
 
The Jockey Club members congratulated to the two scholars on the award during a luncheon on 1 September.

HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship
 
Vocational and professional education and training (VPET) has become more important than ever for the future development of Hong Kong.  Thanks to The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited for establishing the first ever HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship to recognise outstanding all-round achievements of higher diploma/associate degree students pursuing VPET, especially in their vocational aspirations and commitments to Hong Kong.  Among the 47 awardees of this Scholarship from 11 tertiary institutes, ten VTC students were awarded the Scholarship worth HK$20,000 each, and were further honoured in the HSBC Scholars Day held on 13 June.

Shao Ming Lo Foundation Scholarship
 
Shao Ming Lo Foundation offered 12 scholarships to VTC’s THEi students in recognition of their academic performance, significant study improvement and special talent. In the 20 June tea gathering, awardees shared their learning outcome and plan on use of the scholarship. Xu Jian-jun, a Talent Development Scholarship awardee, champion in school fashion show and owner of a coin bag design under the Designs Registry, shared how these achievements have greatly benefitted his study in fashion design. All awardees conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to the generosity of the Shao Ming Lo Foundation, and committed to make continuous progress in their study and to give back to the society in future.

Scholarship awardees thanked Rotary Hong Kong’s contribution to vocational and professional education and training
 
Fifty awardees at Diploma of Foundation Studies, Higher Diploma and Degree levels were granted the “Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship” newly launched in 2016. All students possess satisfactory academic attainments, contribution in community service and demonstrable leadership and service spirit.

In the Awardees Sharing Session held on 26 April, Fong Ting Fung, an awardee representative of THEi, shared his aspiration in vocational and professional education. He was once worked as an Assistant Engineer in a local civil engineering company where he realised how civil engineering projects could improve quality of lives, and that had brought him a great sense of satisfaction. He was dedicated to become an engineer, and contribute to the society through his devotion to the industry. Awardees also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary International District 3450 honourable guests where the Scholarship would enable them to pursue professional development without financial burden, and pledged to contribute back to the community in the future.

Bright Future Charitable Foundation Scholarship Presentation Ceremony
 
With the generous donation from Professor Roy Chung Chi Ping, the “Bright Future Charitable Foundation Scholarship” is established to sponsor VTC Design and Engineering students in pursuit of higher qualifications in vocational and professional education and training with the aim of equipping the awardees with professional knowledge and grooming them into a whole person with passion and commitment to the community. Besides excelling in academic performance, the students are also encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities and overseas exchanges in order to widen their exposure to the industries and societies. The first Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held on 1 February, during which the awardees expressed their gratitude to Professor Chung. They also shared their study plans, and pledged to study hard and give back in the future.

China Candlelight Educational Fund
 
Scholarship is one prominent way to offer diverse learning opportunities to our students.  With the generous donation from the China Candlelight Educational Fund, 20 students from the Higher Diploma of Social Services and Community Education under the Childcare, Elderly and Community Services Discipline made a study tour to Japan.  Students attended lectures at the Tokyo College of Welfare, visited local elderly care centres, learnt about the cultural differences in services and welfare system, and had a good time with the elderly in Japan.  The learning experience is invaluable to our students and has motivated them to bring caring and innovative services to the elderly in Hong Kong.

Shanghai Commercial Bank Scholarship 2014/15
 
With the generous donation from the Shanghai Commercial Bank, the Shanghai Commercial Bank Scholarship was established in 2014/15 to award five outstanding full-time students studying the Higher Diploma in Banking and Finance programme in IVE.  Awardees received prizes at the Shanghai Commercial Bank Scholars Reception held at the Hong Kong Bankers Club, and learnt from the Bank’s senior management on the banking industry and career prospects.

Shanghai Commercial Bank also offers prizes for a HKDI student project, Future Banking - The next era of banking experiences, which is a branch interior renovation design competition for Year 2 students studying the Higher Diploma in Interior Design.  Design concepts of outstanding projects would be considered to implement in the Bank’s future branch renovation.

Bright Future Charitable Foundation Scholarship
 
Thanks to Professor Roy Chung Chi Ping for his generous donation of over HK$3 million to VTC.  A scholarship named “Bright Future Charitable Foundation Scholarship” is established to sponsor outstanding graduates of VTC Foundation Diploma to progress to Higher Diploma, and further to Degree study.  The Scholarship aims to nurture talented students with professional skill-set and attitude to serve the design and engineering sectors. Starting from 2015/16, each year the Scholarship will sponsor 12 graduates of VTC Foundation Diploma to progress to Higher Diploma studies in the Design or Engineering Disciplines at IVE/HKDI.  Another 12 scholarships for the Higher Diploma graduates in Design or Engineering will also be granted for the Degree studies in THEi starting from 2017/18.

Shun Hing Group International Academic Exchange Scholarships 2014/15
 
With the generous support from Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, the "Shun Hing Group International Academic Exchange Scholarships" was established in 2014/15 to support full-time Higher Diploma students from IVE/HKDI to study abroad or join an overseas internship programme.  Two awardees were sponsored to undertake a semester-long programme, namely bipedal walking robot project in the National Institutes of Technology, Japan and tourism exchange programme in the Queensland TAFE, Australia.  Both students gained extraordinary learning experience from overseas institutes, made friendships with local and other international students, and widened their horizons for their further study and future career.

Team Hong Kong Sweeps 7 Medallions
for Excellence at Worldskills São Paulo 2015 
 
Thanks to the generous sponsorships of our supporters. The WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition and Guangzhou/Hong Kong/Macao/Chengdu Youth Skills Competition were completed successfully last year, and top contestants represented Hong Kong to compete in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition, known as the “Skills Olympics” in August.

This year, the WorldSkills Competition held in Sao Paulo Brazil has attracted some 1,200 young talents from over 60 countries and regions. Backed by over 80 sponsors, the Hong Kong Team was represented in the most trades since first joining this Competition. A total of 18 Hong Kong contestants had taken part in 16 competition trades. The sponsorships provided not only funding and supplies to the competitions, but also tailored professional training which empowered the Hong Kong Team to win seven Medallions of Excellence, the largest number of awards since joining.

Speak for Success Programme promotes
whole person development for future leaders
 
Funded by HSBC, the 2014/15 “Speak for Success Programme” has been successfully concluded on 26 June with a fun-filled Sharing Session/Award Presentation Ceremony. This year, 500 VTC students have been trained through a series of workshops and seminars about usages of Chinese and English languages, drama, body language and creative thinking workshops, as well as etiquette, personal image and MC training, to enhance their communications skills, leadership and self-confidence. During this Programme, HSBC executives not only took the lead in a Community Reporter Project with the aim to strengthen students’ interviewing skills while enhancing their understandings of traditional occupations and customs, but also hosted a “HSBC Speaking Series” seminar to share their life experience with students, giving them much encouragement and enlightenment.

Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship
 
Thanks to the Rotary International District 3450 for its generous donation of HK6.5 million to establish the “Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship” for VTC.  The Scholarship aims to support students who strive to succeed in the professions through vocational education and training.  Starting from 2015/16 for each academic year, 50 students with financial needs will be sponsored to study the Foundation Diploma, Higher Diploma or Degree Programmes at VTC.  To appreciate Rotary’s staunch support throughout the years, VTC has named the Learning Resources Centre of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE)’s Sha Tin Campus, the “Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources Centre”.

Sponsorship for Elite Students to undertake Academic Exchange at an Internationally Prestigious Academy
 
With the generous donation from the Esprit Care Trust, 2 elite students from Fashion Design at HKDI are sponsored to undertake a one-year academic exchange at La Cambre, Belgium which is rated as one of the top 5 fashion design schools in the world. It is believed that our students will benefit tremendously from this valuable learning experience.

2015 Hong Kong Housing Society Award
 
Thanks to the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) for granting the HKHS Award to VTC students for the tenth consecutive year. The Award aims to recognise outstanding students and provide financial support to needy students in the housing or elderly services related programmes. This year, the number of awards was increased to 47 with students from IVE/HKDI and THEi. We hope that the awardees would continue with their good work, and give back to the society when opportunities come in the future

The Speak for Success Programme 2014/15
 
The Speak for Success Programme, sponsored by HSBC, held its Training Day Camp in the Whole Person Development Education Centre in the week of 13th January.  We are delighted to have a team of 13 managers and the head from the HSBC’s Regional Security and Fraud Risk department to give an inspirational sharing of their life story and how they achieved success through teamwork, and living with a curious attitude.  Students were encouraged to follow their interests when pursuing their career and keep learning to thrive further.  HSBC volunteers also led group discussions and joined in the adventurous games and team building activities with the IVE/HKDI students.  Through its 10-month workshops and activities, the Speak for Success Programme aims to develop students into effective and confident communicators.

Disney Scholarship 2013/14
 
Thanks to support from the Hong Kong Disneyland, the “Disney Scholarship” is funded for the four consecutive year to support VTC students to pursue a career of their dream.  In AY2013/14, a total of 25 students studying in hospitality, engineering and landscape architecture at IVE and THEi benefited from this scholarship.  In addition, many also received invaluable internship opportunities in the park.

Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarships Presentation Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony
 
With the generous donations and supports from the industry partners, VTC has established the “Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarship” to award students with outstanding performance in industrial attachment and recognise their active participation.  To align with the Hong Kong government’s initiative in developing the cultural and creative industries, VTC has also established the “Design Education Fund” for nurturing young talents to support the growth of the creative industries.  245 higher diploma students of VTC were awarded the scholarship in the ceremony.

Rotary International District 3450 Donated to the VTC Student Development Foundation
 
The Rotary International District 3450 (RID 3450) generously donated to the VTC Student Development Foundation, which would provide scholarships and financial assistance, support students’ holistic development and sponsor educational infrastructure for the students of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education /Hong Kong Design Institute and Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. Corporate leaders and elites from RID 3450 got together with VTC representatives to witness the Donation Agreement Signing Ceremony and celebrate this remarkable collaboration on 25 September.

We are delighted to report that in the academic year of 2013/14, the VTC Student Development Foundation sponsored 37 student development projects local and overseas, and benefited over 1,000 students studying in Youth College, Hospitality Industry Training & Development Centre (HITDC) / Chinese Cuisine Training Institute (CCTI), Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) / Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi).

Among 30 of them were overseas projects, which included students attending world young chefs congress, forum and international competition in Norway, academic exchange in the Institute of Tourism in Salzburg, workshop in the Elisava Barcelona School of Design, industrial project in a Japanese higher institute and so on.  Besides, the seven local projects provided various other extra-curricular development opportunities to students.  These included an English enhancement programme and inter-campus drama festival.  The Foundation aims to sponsor meaningful projects that enhance students’ whole person development and widen their international perspectives.  Your continued dedication is vital as the Foundation seeks ways to support more meaningful projects and students in the coming years.

CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories Admission Scholarship 
 
To nurture talents for the testing and certification industry, the CMA Industrial Development Foundation made a generous donation to VTC in setting up the “CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories Admission Scholarship”.  The scholarship aims to support students of good HKDSE academic performance in pursuit of a higher diploma award in relating to the testing and certification industry, and to encourage them to pursue career in the industry afterwards.  The first cohort of awardees will be granted in academic year 2014/15.

VCare, We Care

 

VCare aims at nurturing VTC students with caring attitude and responsible citizenship through self-designed service learning projects.  With the generous donations from the Joseph Lau Luen-hung Charitable Trust and the support of Mr Lau Ming Wai, more than 300 IVE and HKDI students had the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and guest lectures for voluntary project planning and implementation, and to put their own designed voluntary projects into practice in more than 30 social welfare agencies for those in-need in society.
 
In the eight-month project period in AY 2013/14, a total of 23 projects filling with creativity, love and care services were launched to serve the elderly, children with special educational needs, new arrivals, low-income families and their children, and ex-mentally ill persons etc.  During the course, students become mature and develop their whole-person attributes through caring the under-privileged groups.

Muses Foundation Scholarship 2013/14

 

In order to enrich students’ learning experience and gain exposure from European design tradition, the Muses Foundation for Culture and Education generously donates to VTC to set up a travelling scholarship to support elite HKDI design students to study at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (KADA) – School of Design in Denmark for a semester in academic year 2013/14.   The Scholarship covers the expenses of exchange and enriches the students with exposure to the renowned Nordic design school with 135-years of history.  More importantly, students can develop their independence, communication skills and adaptability through overseas exchange for life.

Mr. K.S. Cheng Memorial Scholarship 2012/13 Awardee Sharing Session

 

With the generous donations from Ms. Vina Cheng, “Mr. K.S. Cheng Memorial Scholarship” was set up to encourage students to pursue their goals and learning objectives, and support them financially in realizing their plans. The scholarship scheme held its first sharing session for the awardees to present their learning outcomes and to thank the donor in person. With the assistance of the scholarship, students were enabled to develop their potentials in different aspects, which include acquiring professional qualifications, enhancing language capability, advancing their competency level in music, participating in exchange activities and so on. Some students actively participated in volunteer or social service to contribute to the community since the tenure of the scholarship.

“Road to Marathon” Kick-off Ceremony

 

The Joseph Lau Luen-hung Charitable Trust has made a generous donation to establish two student development programmes, namely “Road to Marathon” and “VCare”. Mr. Lau Ming-wai, representing the Joseph Lau Luen-hung Charitable Trust, was invited to be the officiating guest and shared his experience in running to about 360 IVE and HKDI students in the kick-off ceremony.

Naming Ceremony of the Wu Jieh Yee Memorial Hall

 

With the generous donations from the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation, the Wu Jieh Yee Bursary is set up to provide financial support to 50 students who come from low-income families to pursue higher diploma studies in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) every year. To recognise and honour the generous donation, the Hall of IVE (Chai Wan) was named as the “Wu Jieh Yee Memorial Hall”.

The Fong Yun Wah Centre for Elderly Services that aims to promote the development of elderly services education was unveiled in IVE (Sha Tin) on 5 July 2013. The Centre provides an environment conducive to the various activities and training that better prepare students and professionals to work in the industry. The Centre was named in honour of Dr FONG Yun Wah and the Fong’s Family Foundation.

Fly High Foundation Award to Transform Students of Youth College


Fifty students of the Youth College were awarded scholarships by the Fly High Foundation in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements and dedication to serving in volunteer services. The scholarships affirmed students of their hard efforts and encouraged them to strive for better. The Fly High Foundation was established by a group of renowned celebrities of the community to promote the all-round development of students.
