Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)

To enable students to showcase their talents in a multi-cultural society and a globalised world, the VTC emphasises the furtherance of inter-cultural networking skills. Since 2012, the VTC has been admitting students from different parts of the world to its full-time programmes. In addition to facilitating internationalisation on campus, students are provided with many opportunities to study abroad and participate in exchange programmes. Through the global partner network, around 7,000 VTC students take part in various exchange programmes each year including study tours, and overseas industry attachments amongst other initiatives. Strong emphasis is placed on promoting international project-based learning to help students integrate theory with practice. This is achieved through the process of acquiring knowledge, transferable skills, as well as the attitude and values necessary to embrace future challenges. Every summer, for instance, VTC Engineering students have a workshop in Hong Kong with students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where they exchange ideas on engineering and science, as well as learning about each other’s culture. MIT students in robot design have also been invited to Hong Kong to share their knowledge with VTC students. Some 200 educators from higher education institutions of different countries gathered at International Symposium on Advances in Technology Education 2018 to share insights and best practices in digitalisation of education.
