Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)

Design Thinking Skills At the VTC, we attach great importance to the development of design thinking skills of our students. Design thinking brings pragmatic solutions to problems and creates value for others. In order to maximise student potential, as well as make learning and life skills relevant, the VTC has made design thinking an embedded, inter-disciplinary, structured, and mandatory aspect of learning for students so that they can create value for others including employers. Skills for Industry 4.0 Innovation holds the key to future success. Industry 4.0 — the Fourth Industrial Revolution — is drawing together the cyber and real worlds. Developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing, and biotechnology are all building upon and amplifying one another. In the area of financial services, technologies have the potential to innovate traditional products and business processes for the benefit of consumers and enterprises. The application of new technologies is driving significant industrial changes and impacting existing business models. Changing values, as well as rising customers' expectations are also transforming the provision of business services. To accommodate these technological changes, there is a need to prepare students with the skills that can help create new business opportunities — especially in the areas of robotics, big data analytics, and cyber security — to help develop a smart city and enhance the quality of life. The VTC continuously updates the curriculum content of relevant VPET programmes so that training in technologies relevant to Industry 4.0 is included. Specialised laboratories are established to support training for Industry 4.0 and smart city development, including Internet-of-Things Laboratory, and Innovation & Technology Co-creation Centre.
