Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)

Using Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) simulation systems, students at the VTC are provided with different workplace environments where they are encouraged to undertake specific tasks. These tasks include identifying safety hazards and conducting machine inspections in virtual plant rooms and aircraft hangar environments. Taking the module on aircraft maintenance as an example: wearing VR glasses, students enter the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment — where simulation of the ramp, hangar and workshop are available — to check for damaged parts and defects. They may even undertake emergency repairs with the aid of the head-mounted display VR system. System design for modules on building services engineering and automotive engineering has also been developed to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning in engineering programmes. Students enter the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment with VR glasses to conduct inspections and even undertake emergency repairs. Technology-enhanced Learning 52
