Degree Programmes with a Real-world Orientation To nurture talent and skills required for the future workforce, there is a global trend to promote applied education, in which learning is built on practical work. In 2012, the VTC established the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) offering vocationally-and-professionally- oriented Degree programmes, extending the VPET value chain. The degree programmes offered by THEi are embedded with features including substantial work-based learning in the curriculum, and strong industry involvement and recognition. Under the framework of Applied Degree, THEi has produced work-ready graduates who have been widely commended by employers for their real-world practicalities. 38
