Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)

Organisation Leadership To create synergies among the operational units, the VTC has adopted a matrix management system. This facilitates effective communication among different disciplines (see Appendix), departments, and campuses from strategic planning to implementation and review. Essentially, the matrix management system integrates the roles of disciplines and campuses. Under the leadership of respective Academic Directors, disciplines are responsible for the VPET programme planning and development, as well as the corresponding resources planning. Those involved at the campus level are responsible for observing the strategic directions of the related disciplines, implementing their plans, and ensuring that the courses are run effectively within the campus. As a result of these cross-functional relationships, the unique strengths and traits of disciplines and individual campuses are maintained and developed. The diagram summarises the key roles of the Academic Directors and Campus Principals. It is worth noting that these are concurrent postings, and that an Academic Director may also serve as a Campus Principal. The matrix management system has made the inter-disciplinary culture in the VTC relatively straightforward. 122
