Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)
Established in 1982, the VTC is mandated to provide quality VPET, nurturing globally competitive individuals to support the development of Hong Kong and the region. The VTC is a statutory body with a budget of over HK$5 billion (approximately US$640 million). Every year, the VTC offers vocational education and training at various levels (including craft, technician and Degree) to some 200,000 in-service workers and young people of which 50,000 are full-time students. The VTC has 13 member institutions. Through its 13 member institutions, the VTC offers a diverse range of programmes specially designed for pre-employment youth and adult learners. These include Bachelor’s Degree, Top-up Degree, Higher Diploma, and Diploma programmes such as Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate. Other programmes include Diploma and Certificate courses, in-service training and skills training programmes for non-engaged youth, and apprentice training. These 13 member institutions create a through-train system to prepare students with both industry-specific and generic skills aligned with the social and economic development of Hong Kong.
