Skilling for the Future (2020 Update)
Reskilling for Career Mobility There are many reskilling opportunities and choices available at the VTC for learners who look for practical training in specific industries, e.g. training in lift and escalator engineering, gas supply pipework and welding offered by VTC’s Pro-Act Training and Development Centres, and also the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and professional butler courses offered by IVE and HTI. To facilitate job mobility of in-service or unemployed adults, placement-tied and skills upgrading courses are also run by the Integrated Vocational Development Centre (IVDC) in various areas including catering, beauty therapy, and environmental services. One of the VTC’s statutory missions is to provide skills training for people with disabilities aged 15 and above. To cater for the upskilling and reskilling needs of people with disabilities, Shine Skills Centre (Shine) of the VTC provides diverse programme choices and flexible training models not just to school leavers, but also to in- service persons and its alumni to enhance their employability in different trades such as catering, desktop publishing and retail services. A social enterprise was established in 2019 for graduates to further their catering skills through running a café. Skilling for the Future THEi, SHAPE and HKDI are participating partners of Spark: The Science and Art of Creativity organised by the British Council in 2019. Thought- leadership panel discussions were held to share insights on technology- based teaching and skills for the future workforce. 107
