VTC Annual Report 2018/2019

50 The development of the Guangdong- Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) has brought new opportunities for collaboration. Our flourishing partnership further connects us with regional partners in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. During the year, several thousands of students went on exchanges to the Greater Bay Area and countries along the Belt and Road under various funding schemes. By participating in diverse activities including industry attachments, competitions, exhibitions and cultural and knowledge exchanges, our young people were able to hone their skills and broaden their vision, gaining meaningful experience from these fast-developing areas. For example, students from THEi’s Civil Engineering programme participated in a summer internship programme in Zhuhai to learn from professionals there about large-scale construction projects and widen their professional perspectives. Familiarisation visits to the Greater Bay Area were also organised for staff members, enabling them to keep abreast of the latest developments and expand their collaboration networks.
