To prepare students for the digital age and respond to changing job trends, we continuously develop and enhance our curricula to reflect the competencies required for a smart workforce, including interdisciplinary knowledge and STEM proficiency. To address the fast-changing needs of the city’s industries, we strongly encourage ‘upskilling’ among new and existing employees. The Government has provided subsidies for designated part-time programmes in Engineering and Technology since 2016, and has recently extended this to the Creative Industries. About 4,500 students have benefitted so far. On the infrastructure side, the opening of our new International Culinary Institute campus demonstrates our commitment to providing opportunities for aspiring young chefs. The new THEi campus in Chai Wan likewise offers an innovative and dynamic learning environment for 21st century professional training. Boosting Strategic Partnerships Dual-track learning, which integrates structured classroom learning with on-the-job training, is also high on our agenda. We are greatly encouraged by the positive feedback to our pioneering VTC Earn & Learn Scheme, a tripartite endeavour between the Government, industry and the VTC. Since its introduction in 2014, some 300 public and private organisations from different industries have taken part in the Scheme, as well as Government departments, and over 4,600 students have benefitted.
