47 Through tapping applied research opportunities, VTC staff and students continue to keep abreast of the latest development trends in the industry. In the year under review, funding and support were gained to drive innovation and creative solutions. Enhanced Research Support THEi successfully secured research grant awards totalling HK$12 million in 2017/18 from the Competitive Research Funding Schemes of the Research Grants Council. New research centres were established to strengthen research capacity. For example, the Research Centre for Waste and Resource Management at THEi undertook a study on reducing asphalt waste and the cost of road projects in the interests of environmental protection. It also devised a catalytic system that could turn non-recyclables such as contaminated wood and paper product waste into valuable products. VTC 師生透過應用研發項目,緊貼行業最 新發展趨勢。年內,我們獲得撥款及資 助,用以進行創新研究、構建創意方案。 加強研發支援 THEi 獲研究資助局的「競逐研究資助計劃」 批出港幣 1,200 萬元。 學院成立新研究中心,以加強研發能力。 THEi 的環境及資源管理研究中心開展的科 研項目,便是一個例子。該項目就減低瀝 青棄置率進行研究,降低道路工程成本之 餘,更有助保護環境。中心又設計同步分 解系統,使原本受污染的木材及紙張循環 再用,變成具價值的產品。 另外,我們亦透過質素提升支援計劃、創 新及科技基金等提供的研究經費,開展不 同範疇的研究項目,例如編寫特別設計 的教材,加深學生對藥劑及配藥行業的認 識;又利用樂齡科技,協助護理人員設計 合適訓練,鍛煉認知障礙症患者的認知能 力和體能。 研發成果豐碩 VTC 教學團隊研發出「智能紓壓高跟鞋」和 「智能發熱護膝」,兩項發明分別奪得第 46 屆日內瓦國際發明展金、銀獎,印證 VTC 的科研實力。 With funding from different sources such as the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme and Innovation & Technology Fund, the VTC also carried out research projects in various fields. These included the development of tailor-made teaching and learning materials to help students better understand the pharmaceutical and dispensing industry; and using cutting-edge ‘gerontechnology’ to assist caregivers in designing cognitive and physical training for people with dementia. Quality Applied Research As a shining testimony to our research efforts, staff members won Gold and Silver Medals at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva with their respective inventions of Innovative Foot Biomechanics for Enhancing Design and Comfort of Ladies High- heeled Footwear, and a 3D Heat Conductive Knee Sleeves Design.
