13 During the year in review, the VTC has continued to innovate and grow areas of excellence on a broad front, bringing VPET to the next level. Empowering the City Technological innovations and mega- trends like artificial intelligence (AI), big data and robotics are transforming the world of work. Accelerators such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area are meanwhile driving the region’s development through widened economic and social connectivity. At local level, the Government released its Smart City blueprint in December 2017, with a vision to build Hong Kong into a world-class smart city. All these developments are opening up huge opportunities for Hong Kong, while posing new challenges. Amid this rapid world of change, education cannot stand still. As educators, our role at the VTC is to empower learners with the right attitude, knowledge and skills to respond quickly to the opportunities on offer, seizing them with agility. Building on the solid foundations laid down over the past three decades, the VTC continues to play a pioneering role in the VPET arena, setting ever-higher standards of teaching and programme delivery, while investing in new initiatives and infrastructure to prepare our graduates for the challenges ahead. 在本年度， VTC 繼續力求創新，多方面精 益求進，推動職業專才教育邁步向前。 科技趨勢 策動全城 科技日新月異，人工智能、大數據及機械 人的應用大行其道，各行各業正不斷轉 型。「一帶一路」和粵港澳大灣區的發展， 更強化了區內的經濟與社會連繫，促進區 內的蓬勃發展。 政府於 2017 年 12 月公布「香港智慧城市 藍圖」，目標是將香港構建成世界級的智 慧城市，連串的發展為本地帶來龐大機 遇，同時亦帶來全新挑戰。面對社會轉 變，教育亦需與時並進。作為教育機構， VTC 的使命是引領學生掌握正確的學習態 度，裝備知識與技能，助他們抓緊當前 機遇。 VTC 憑藉過去三十多年的堅實基礎，得以 在職業專才教育領域走在前沿。我們持續 優化教學及授課內容，同時投放資源發展 新項目及基建，助畢業生為未來的挑戰做 好準備。 職業專才教育 面向新時代 面對瞬息萬變、互聯相通的世界環境，可 持續發展的關鍵在於培育智慧型的技能專 才。香港特區政府一再強調職業專才教育 於培育本地優質人才的重要性，同時為年 輕人提供多元出路。 配合政府政策及 VTC 的策略方向，我們於 年內推出多個全新項目，包括推出不同類 型的職前課程，加強學科主導的專業合 作與 STEM 教育，並增添全新的先進教學 設施，為香港的智慧城市發展培育所需 人才。 VPET for a New Age In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, a skilled and smart workforce will determine our ability to create sustainable growth for the city’s economy. The Government has reiterated the importance of VPET in strengthening the city’s workforce and providing young people with more diverse paths to excellence. In line with Government’s call and the VTC’s strategic directions, we have rolled out a number of new initiatives during the year. These included more diversified pre-employment programmes, more discipline-led collaborations, strengthened STEM education and new technology- enhanced teaching facilities, all aimed at nurturing the talent Hong Kong needs for its smart city development.
