LOW-CARBON ENVIRONMENT CARBON REDUCTION ROADMAP In support of Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050, the VTC is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 50% before 2035 and contributing to the Government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050. We have established a roadmap of targeted measures to reach this long-term sustainability goal. Our strategy is informed by a thorough review of existing carbon reduction practices, with a clear focus on carbon emissions reduction across all campuses. PROJECTED NET CARBON EMISSIONS VERSUS BASE YEAR AY2018/19 Carbon reduction measures across VTC premises: Carry out continuous housekeeping practices, including energysaving behaviours and regular maintenance Initiate pilot projects for applying high solar reflectance index (SRI) paint on roofs Incorporate the following into regular maintenance plans Upgrade room air conditioners to higher efficiency models Upgrade chillers to higher performance models Implement energy-efficient LED lighting Install solar window films to reduce solar heat gain Establish a 5-year regular review cycle, with education and promotion as an ongoing practice Continue to explore new reduction opportunities 4 The carbon emissions projected through 2050 are based on a portfolio of reduction measures, subject to the availability of funding for implementation, and the assumed emission factors.
