Course Aims This course is designed to enable students to acquire the latest knowledge in fashion image design. Through interactive teaching activities effectively develop their creative thinking, diverse communication skills, teamwork and interpersonal skills. 2. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. understand the changes of the trend in fashion image design and the latest developments of the design industry in the local and global context; 2. demonstrate a basic understanding of the importance of work ethics and responsibilities required of a fashion image designer; 3. apply fundamental fashion construction and appropriate image styling to create the outputs of fashion image design; 4. demonstrate the ability to create and present original design concepts in terms of fashion illustrations and photographic images which can cater for the needs of various clientele; 5. integrate communication skills, team building skills as well as critical thinking and creative skills in creating new fashion image design outputs needed for individuals and mass market; and 6. enhance self-understanding and explore directions on further studies and career pursuits.

Content and Organisation Module One: Understand Fashion Image Design Profession in Practice (10 hours) This unit aims to convey the development background, nature, organizational structure and employment opportunities of the fashion image design industry. Through systematic introduction and visits, students can understand the general situation of the industry and development opportunities. Major contents:  Fashion Image Design Industry Profile  Role and Work Ethics for Fashion Image Designers  Research on Retail Fashion Market Module Two: Fashion Illustration (30 hours) By learning the basic knowledge of fashion image design, including basic drawing techniques, color concepts and effects, students can master the basic aesthetic principles and skills as the basis for future design. Major contents:  Basic Sewing  3D Modelling and Basic Block Construction  Design and Prototyping Module Five: Fashion Image Photography (12 hours) This module aims to enable students to understand the digital media of fashion photography, related functions, structures, and grasp the fashion photography techniques of digital photography, and appreciation of Photography Art. Course Duration : 180 hours Students must attend all lessons. If absence is unavoidable, students should make a formal application by completing the “Leave Application Form” (Appendix A), substantiated with documented proof, to the Course Leader or Course Tutor concerned as soon as possible. In case of absence on medical grounds, students should inform the Course Tutor beforehand as far as possible and make a formal application for leave with documented proof (such as medical certificate) immediately upon resuming to studies. The minimum attendance requirement for Applied Learning (ApL) courses is 80% of the total number of contact hours. March Year 2 20% Notes: If a student is absent from the assessment with valid reason, he/she may apply for re-assessment. Performance Descriptors of Attained Students at this level typically: 1. demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and issues of fashion and image design; 2. apply basic design concepts and drawing skills to demonstrate ideas in creating images with aesthetic appeal for individuals and/or mass markets; 3. demonstrate basic presentation skills, organisational skills and collaborative skills in the research and development of a range of fashion and image design ideas; 4. communicate simple ideas about image design with appropriate terminology and appropriate media of the design industries; 5. demonstrate basic problem-solving and decision-making skills when analysing and evaluating different design elements, and propose feasible solutions for fashion and image design problems; 6. demonstrate a basic understanding and respect of the professional ethics and responsibilities required of a fashion and image design practitioner, as well as the cultural influences and lifestyle changes brought about by the industry; and 7. demonstrate a basic understanding of the future trends of the fashion image design industry and the ability to identify opportunities for selfdevelopment. 10. Further Studies and Employment Effective from the 2018 HKDSE Examination, the reporting of student performance in ApL courses is refined to “Attained”, “Attained with Distinction (I)” and “Attained with Distinction (II)”. Performance of “Attained with Distinction (I)” is comparable to Level 3 while “Attained with Distinction (II)” is comparable to Level 4 or above of Category A subjects of the HKDSE Examination. Further Studies Students under the new academic structure are eligible to apply for admission to Associate Degree or Higher Diploma programmes if they meet the minimum entrance requirements of Level 2 in five HKDSE subjects (including Chinese Language and English Language). Holders of the Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) (students admitted to DVE in AY2017/18 or before are required to complete prescribed further studies modules) and holders of Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin are considered having met the general requirements of Higher Diploma programmes (not applicable to programmes with specific entrance requirements). 3. Diploma programmes are geared to prepare students for employment after graduation. Safety Rules

Applied Learning – Fashion Image Design Applied Learning Courses – Student Manual (2024-26 Cohort; 2026 HKDSE) [Commencing at Secondary 4 in the 2023/24 School Year] 20 1) To ensure the safety of students, students must use the tools and equipment in the workshop correctly. 2) Without the permission of the instructor, students are not allowed to operate any machine at the workplace. 3) Students must work in accordance with the instructions given by the instructor and are not allowed to dismantle any part of the machine without authorization. 4) Clean up work should be completed before the end of class. 5) In case of accidental injury or machine malfunction, report to the instructor immediately. 6) Students must wear proper shoes and no slippers when attending practical classes. 7) Eating and playing is strictly prohibited at the workshop. 8) Students must follow the instructions of the instructor to borrow tools in the tool room, and are not allowed to enter the tool room or storage room without authorization. 9) After students borrow the tools, they must use and keep them properly. In case of loss or malicious damage, compensation must be made according to the market price. 10) Before class ends, students must return the borrowed tools to the tool room as soon as possible. 11) All tools must not be taken away from the workshop.
