Vocational Training Council (VTC), being the largest vocational and
professional education and training provider in Hong Kong, provides valuable credentials for some
200,000 students each year through a full range of pre-employment and in-service
programmes with internationally recognised qualifications.
In support of the Government’s initiative to diversify the curriculum of senior secondary
students, the VTC has been offering a variety of Applied Learning (ApL) (formerly known
as Career-oriented Curriculum (COC) courses since the first piloting year 2003/04. VTC
has established a firm foundation and reputation and is the leading provider of the ApL
courses, taking up a lion’s share of students. The VTC has a robust quality assurance
system and the courses are regularly reviewed and updated. The VTC will continue to offer a series of quality courses that well suit the diverse learning interests
and needs of the secondary four to six students.

Recognition of Qualification
Performance standards in ApL courses are designated as “Attained” , “Attained with
Distinction (I)” and “Attained with Distinction (II)” and are reported on the certificate of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary
Education (HKDSE). Students attaining the results of “Attained” , “Attained with
Distinction (I)” and “Attained with Distinction (II)” in the ApL courses are accepted as attaining the competencies required
at HKDSE Level 2 , Level 3 and Level 4 or above respectively for the purpose of further studies
and/or work.
Students attaining the results of “Attained” , “Attained with Distinction (I)” and “Attained with Distinction (II)”in the ApL courses are accepted as attaining the competencies required at “Level 2” , “Level 3”and “Level 4” in HKDSE respectively, and a maximum of two ApL courses can be counted for admission purpose. Only relevant ApL courses will be considered in the application for Degree programmes.
General entrance requirements of Degree Programmes : Level 3 or above in the HKDSE English Language and Chinese Language, AND Level 2 or above in the HKDSE Mathematics, Liberal Studies and one Elective Subject; OR equivalent.
General entrance requirements of Higher Diploma Programmes: Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language; OR VTC Diploma of Foundation Studies; OR VTC Diploma of Vocational Education; OR Yi Jin Diploma/ Diploma Yi Jin; OR equivalent.
Higher Diploma graduates can apply for admission to top-up degree programmes offered by the VTC in collaboration with local and overseas universities, or degree programmes offered by local or overseas universities.
General entrance requirements of Diploma of Foundation Studies and Diploma of Vocational Education Programmes: Completion of Secondary 6 (under the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure); OR equivalent.
