Hong Kong is an international fashion business centre. Many international enterprises have set up regional offices in Hong Kong and their businesses have spread over the neighbouring countries. Renowned international fashion brands have also been developing their markets in Hong Kong and China in recent years.
The Fashion Branding and Buying consists of a wide range of activities in the spectrum of the whole supply-demand pipeline, including fashion brand promotion, fashion e-business, product development, global buying and sourcing, digital fashion marketing, fashion retail management, visual merchandising and fashion display design, etc.
This programme is designed to enable students to have jobs in different areas of Fashion Branding and Buying, emphasizing students’ international exposure. Students will find the programme both practical and creative, through different learning experiences such as overseas exchanges, local and overseas industrial visits, industrial collaborative projects and industrial attachments with international fashion brands and companies. Professional knowledge and technology in fashion branding and digital marketing, trend analysis, fashion e-business, global fashion buying, fashion product development, materials and technology form the core components of the programme from which students can select one of the specific study scopes in (1) buying and retail management, (2) product development and sourcing, or (3) visual merchandising and branding.
This programme is also designed with an emphasis on generic, language and communication training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
Graduates may be employed in local and international fashion enterprises as fashion brand executive, digital fashion marketing officer, fashion e-business planner, fashion visual merchandiser, fashion buyer, and fashion merchandiser. Job scopes include brand management, fashion marketing and promotion, fashion product development, trading and merchandising, visual merchandising and display design.
Graduates can pursue relevant degrees locally or overseas.

The Higher Diploma in Fashion Branding and Buying offered by HKDI is highly recognised by the industry.
Graduates are eligible to apply for ordinary membership of Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA).
Students are eligible to apply for student membership of Hong Kong Institute of Textile and Apparel (HKITA), and Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA).
Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
