Application for THEi Full-time Degree (Year 1 Entry) Programmes

How can I submit the application?

Applicants may submit their application for THEi Self-financing Full-time Degree (Year 1 Entry) programmes via the “VTC Web-based Admissions System”. Applicants are able to submit / update their programme choices, fill in their academic qualification, upload qualification / supporting documents, check the application status, arrangement of interview / test and conditional offer announcement via the system. The application for full-time programmes in AY 2018/19 starts on 24 Nov 2017. Applicants may refer to this Admissions Homepage for details of relevant application procedure.

 

Applicant should create a user account before the first login to the “VTC Web-based Admissions System”. Upon successful creation of the user account, the system will send a confirmation email to applicant’s registered email address. Applicant may start filling in application form by login to the “VTC Web-based Admissions System” with their registered email address and password. Applicants may refer to the user guide of “VTC Web-based Admissions System” for procedures of create new user account and submission of application.

                    

Applicants may also use their smartphones / tablet PCs to submit their applications for THEi Self-financing Full-time Degree (Year 1 Entry) programmes via the “VTC Mobile Application System”. How to choose an application form?

Applicants with HKDSE results and HK A-level holders may login “VTC Web-based Admissions System” and fill in the form of “Full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education, Diploma Programmes” under the section of Application Form.

 

Applicants may also use their smartphones / tablet PCs to submit the form of “Full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education, Diploma Programmes” via the “VTC Mobile Application System”.

How to update the programme choices, personal particulars and academic qualifications after submitted the application form?

Applicants applying for Full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education, Diploma programmes, may update their programme choices, personal particulars and academic qualifications by logging in to the “VTC Web-based Admissions System” / “VTC Mobile Application System” before the application deadline. If applicants need to amend the English name, HKID No. and Date of Birth, they are required to download and submit the completed Change of Particulars Notification Form together with the copy of relevant documents to the VTC Admissions Office IN PERSON or via email / fax. Applicants may also authorise a representative to act on his / her behalf.

How to pay application fee?

The amount of application fee will be listed on the page ‘Application Fee Payment’ / ‘Application Record’. Applicants may pay the application fee by one of the following methods (Cheque and Cash are NOT accepted) :

  • 7-Eleven
  • ATM (Hang Seng Bank / HSBC / JETCO ATM with JET Payment Logo)
  • PPS (via Telephone / Internet)
  • e-Banking Services
  • Online Payment Services (VISA / MasterCard / PPS)

 

Please refer to the relevant application procedures in this homepage or “VTC Web-based Admissions System” / “VTC Mobile Application System” for the detailed payment instructions.

 

Please keep the payment receipt / write down the payment reference number / print out the payment result for record. Application will be processed only after the application form is submitted and application fee is settled; the application fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

How to confirm the application fee is paid?

Applicants can login to the Main Page of the “VTC Web-based Admissions System” / My Account of the “VTC Mobile Application System” to check their application and payment status. Upon confirmation of the settlement of applicants’ application fee, the system will show “Paid” status in application fee payment and applicants will receive an acknowledgment email in their registered email with their “Application Number”.

 

Please make sure the payment is made correctly with the “7-Eleven QR Code” or “14-digit Payment Number” generated by the system on or before the application deadline (each application has a unique QR code & payment number which is only applicable to that application). It normally takes 2 working days for the Admissions Office to verify application fee payment record. Applicants are advised to pay the application fee as early as possible. Application will be processed only after the application form is submitted and application fee is settled.

I have paid the application fee. Why is the payment status still showing “Not Paid”?

Please retain the receipt or payment record after settling the application fee. Normally, it takes 2 working days for the Admissions Office to verify application fee payment record. Applicants should confirm that an adequate amount of application fee is paid with the correct “14-digit Payment Number” and verify with the bank/credit card centre that the payment is successfully completed. If the payment status is still showing “Not Paid”, please contact VTC Admissions Office at 2897 6111 or email: admission@vtc.edu.hk.

What happen after I’ve submitted a VTC application through E-APP? How can I verify my application is completed?

After the E-APP application reached VTC, applicants will be notified by email to login the “VTC Web-based Admissions System” / “VTC Mobile Application System” to provide supplementary information and pay the application fee before the specified deadline. The application is completed when the application form status is “submitted” and the payment status “Paid” is shown in the system.

What applicants should do if they would like to opt out for receiving promotion materials of VTC and its member institutions?

Applicants may unsubscribe from receiving promotion materials of VTC and its member institutions by sending the request with their registered name, phone number, mobile number, email address, correspondence address and education level by email admission@vtc.edu.hk or by fax 2365 4172.

                                                                             

Applicants may also login to “VTC Web-based Admissions System” / “VTC Mobile Application System” and go to the “Change of Personal Particulars” page to update the check box of unsubscribing direct marketing information.

Academic Qualifications and Programme Information
 

For applicants holding HKDSE examination results, what are the general entrance requirements?

For students applying on the basis of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), the general entrance requirements are:

  • Chinese Language Level 3 or above; AND
  • English Language Level 3 or above; AND
  • Mathematics Level 2 or above; AND
  • Liberal Studies Level 2 or above; AND
  • One Elective Subject Level 2 or above; or equivalent.

 

Notes :

  1. Some programmes may have other programme-specific or additional entrance requirements. Please refer to Degree Programmes for the entrance requirements of the programmes.
  2. Applicants choosing Degree programmes (Advertising, Fashion Design, Product Design, Landscape Architecture and Multimedia Technology and Innovation) may be required to bring along their work portfolios when they attend the interview, if applicable.
Would alternative Chinese Language qualifications be considered for non-Chinese speaking applicants to apply for Degree programmes?

Non-Chinese speaking applicants who meet the specific circumstances#, the alternative language qualification below will be considered individually in the application :
 

  • “Attained” or above in HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese; OR
  • Grade C or above in GCSE / IGCSE / GCE O-level Chinese Language; OR
  • Grade C or above in GCE AS-level Chinese Language; OR
  • Grade E or above in GCE A-level Chinese Language.

For applicants holding HKDSE examination results, would Category B (Applied Learning Subjects) and Category C (Other Languages Subjects) be considered as having met the general entrance requirement on elective subject?

Category B – Applied Learning Subjects :

  • An “Attained”, "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at “Level 2”, “Level 3” and “Level 4” respectively; and
  • A maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.

 

Category C – Other Languages Subjects :

  • A Grade C or above in a Category C subject would be regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE Elective Subject at Level 3;
  • A Grade D or E in Category C subject would be regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE Elective Subject at Level 2; and
  • One Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose.
What is the medium of instruction in THEi?

Except for programmes or modules of specific content, the medium of instruction for THEi degree programmes is English and may be supplemented with Chinese, as when and where required.

 

Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP)
 

What programmes offered by THEi are covered under the Government’s Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP) in academic year 2018/19?

There are twelve THEi programmes under the SSSDP with a total of 691 subsidised places. The following programmes are included. Please visit THEi Homepage for details.

 

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management
  • Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts Management
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Environmental Engineering and Management
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Multimedia Technology and Innovation
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Building Services Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information and Communications Technology
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Surveying

 

The places in the subsidised programmes would be allocated through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS).

Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong

From the 2017/18 academic year, the Government provides a non-means-tested annual subsidy for eligible students pursuing full-time locally-accredited local and non-local self-financing undergraduate (including top-up degree) programmes in Hong Kong (save for those enrolled in places already supported under the  Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors) offered by eligible institutions. For details and eligibility of the subsidy scheme, please visit the Concourse for Self-financing Post-secondary Education website.
