Visa

Unless a person has the right of abode or right to land in the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR), he / she requires a visa / entry permit to study in the HKSAR.

Persons who do not have the right of abode or right to land and wish to enter Hong Kong for the purpose of education are required by law to obtain a valid study visa / entry permit issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department before coming to Hong Kong. Students who hold a valid study visa / entry permit issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department will be classified as “Non-local Students”.

Currently, persons holding any of (but not limited to) the following documents issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department will NOT be considered as non-local applicants:

  1. Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
  2. Hong Kong Identity Card showing "right to land" status
  3. One way permit for entry to Hong Kong
  4. Entry visa/entry permit for quality migrants
  5. Entry visa/entry permit for capital investment entrants
  6. Other documents issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department that show the applicant's 'right of abode' or 'right to land' in Hong Kong

According to the Hong Kong’s current immigration regulations, nationals of Afghanistan, Albania, Cambodia, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic Peoples' Republic of), Nepal and Vietnam may not be able to obtain a study visa / entry permit to study in Hong Kong. If the applicant’s status is changed after submitting the application, the offer made according to the previous applicant status may be cancelled and the application will be re-considered by another appropriate admission exercise.

If you are being offered a place of study, VTC will assist you to apply for Hong Kong Study Visa. Normally the visa application takes 6 weeks. We will send the Hong Kong Study Visa label by speed post to your mail address when it is approved. An admission fee is levied on each visa application. Details will be provided before commencing the application procedure.

Documents required for Hong Kong Study Visa application include but not limited to the following:

  • Application for Entry for Study in Hong Kong (ID 995A)
  • The applicant's recent photograph (affixed on page 2 of the application form ID 995A)
  • Photocopy of the applicant's travel document containing personal particulars, date of issue, date of expiry and/or details of any re-entry visa held (if applicable). For an applicant who is currently staying in the HKSAR, photocopy of his/her travel document page containing the latest arrival stamp/landing slip/extension of stay label in the HKSAR. A Chinese resident of the Mainland who has not been issued with a travel document may submit a photocopy of his/her People's Republic of China resident identity card.
  • Photocopy of the applicant's Hong Kong identity card (if any)
  • A letter of acceptance from the educational institution
  • One of the applicant's parents should authorise the sponsor or his/her relative/friend in Hong Kong to be the guardian of the applicant. A consent letter duly signed by both the guardian and one of the applicant's parents should be produced. [if the applicant is under the age of 18]
  • Photocopy of proof of the applicant's accommodation arrangement [if the applicant is under the age of 18]
  • Photocopy of proof of the applicant's financial support, e.g. bank statements, savings account passbooks, tax receipts and salary slips [if the sponsor is the educational institution]
  • Photocopy of the applicant's Macao identity card [for Macao residents only]
  • Photocopy of the applicant's household registration in Taiwan and Taiwan identity card [for Taiwan residents only]
