The Programmes

  1.1

Is this MSc degree, completed in Hong Kong, the same as that completed at The University of Warwick in the UK?
MSc in Programme and Project Management^, completed in Hong Kong, will be awarded by The University of Warwick and is identical to the degree awarded in the UK. This MSc programme is registered under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognize any qualification to which this course may lead.

What is the structure of the MSc in Programme and Project Management^?
You are required to take six core modules and two elective modules and execute a major individual research project.

What are the Postgraduate Diploma (PgD), Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) and Postgraduate Award (PgA)?
The PgD, PgC and PgA are the intermediary qualifications (exit awards) that students can achieve by successfully completing the required modules.

How long do I have to study for an MSc award?
You are required to complete the MSc programme in one year under the full-time mode. Students taking the MSc programme in part-time mode normally complete it in two to three years’ time.

How are the modules scheduled? Where do I attend the module classes?
Each module consists of nominally 40 hours of directed tuition and is conducted on a block basis, which comprises Weekend Sessions (9:00 am - 6:30 pm) and Weekday Sessions (7:00 pm - 10:15 pm). Both full-time and part-time students will take the same module class, and all classes are delivered on VTC’s Chai Wan campus.

Am I allowed to attend modules in the UK or other countries?
Students may apply for attending up to two modules in the UK (or other WMG centres such as Singapore, Thailand, and Cyprus.) without additional course fee. The “hosting” centre may charge other fees (e.g. hospitality, etc.), and details will be provided to the students when they make a booking. Students will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodation. Cancellation charge may also be applied.

Are there any written work or examinations for the programmes?
There is one written Post-module Assignment (PMA) for each module. As a nominal guide a PMA for a 15-credit module would normally be in the order of 4,000 words, but individual module tutors may set other word limits. No written examination is required.

  1.8

What are the requirements for the individual research project?
Students will undertake a major individual research project in the form of a dissertation (approximately 20,000 words) which comprises 33% of the assessed marks for an MSc programme. The project should clearly and substantially relate to, or be applicable to, the programme of study. The project will be supervised by experienced and well qualified supervisors locally in Hong Kong.

Applications

  2.1

What are the entry requirements?
Applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree with an upper second class honours or equivalent and attain an English proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (with no element below 6.0) or TOEFL 92 (Internet-based and with listening and writing 21 or above, reading 22 or above, and speaking 23 or above) or Pearson Test of English Academic 62 (no main element below 59) within the last 2 years *

* The above English proficiency requirement applies to non-native English speakers only. Applicants who have undertaken at least two academic years of study in higher education within the last two years, which is taught and assessed in an English speaking country, such as the UK, USA, Australia, etc. OR who are employed and have been working effectively for at least the last two years in a company in which English is the working language may apply for exemption.


Applicants with post-experience diploma or higher diploma with appropriate working experience will be considered on individual merit.

  2.2

How should I apply for the MSc programme?
The following documents should be submitted by hand or by mail to the Admissions Office for entry into the programme:

  • Signed application form

  • One copy of academic transcripts and certificates, and / or official proof for professional qualifications

  • Two reference letters / reference forms (from academic and / or workplace professional *)

  • One copy of your proof of English proficiency i.e. IELTS or TOEFL or Pearson Test official score report (where applicable)

  • Original receipt of application fee (HK$200) payment


* Either the reference form or reference letter is acceptable. In situations where a student did not study in the past 2 years, business / commercial or other referees will be accepted.


Please note that applicants are required to submit an original copy / a valid (attested) copy of the degree transcripts and certificates once an offer of study place has been made.

  2.4

Do I need to apply for a study visa to study in Hong Kong?
Persons who do not have the right of abode or right to land and wish to enter Hong Kong for the purpose of education are required by law to obtain a valid study visa / entry permit issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department before coming to Hong Kong. Fees

  3.1

What are the course fees?
The tuition fee for each module is HK$15,500* and the project fee is HK$16,000*. The amount to be paid for each instalment will depend on the number of module / project taken in the semester.

* These fees are for students starting their programme in AY2023/24 and are fixed for the duration of their programme.


  3.2

Do I have to pay in Hong Kong dollars?
Yes.

  3.3

When do I need to pay the tuition fee?
The tuition fee should be paid within one month before the commencement of a semester.
(Semester 1: From September to February; Semester 2: From March to August)

  4.1

What kind of accommodation is available from the School?
Full-time students are eligible to apply for student residence at the VTC Halls of Residence (Pokfulam and Tsing Yi). Please refer to http://www.vtc.edu.hk/wmg/non-local-accommodation.html for more details.
