TECHNICAL AIDS AND RESOURCE CENTRE

Objectives
        The Technical aids and Resource Centre is one of the support services provided by the Vocational Training Council.  Its main objectives are:
(i)   to design and produce technical aids and learning resources;
(ii)  to modify or adapt practical facilities in training or at work to meet the particular needs of disabled individuals,
(iii) to advise employers on application of technical aids and modification of machinery for disabled workers;
(iv) to offer resource service to disabled persons in employment, disabled students or trainees in The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and the Industrial Training Centres, to help them overcome problems encountered in employment or training; and;
(v)  to act as a venue for information exchange in the field of vocational rehabilitation.
Technical Aids Unit
         In addition to the rehabilitation engineering staff, the project room of TARC are equipped with a comprehensive range of mechanical machinery and electronic equipment.  These resources enable employment/technical aids to be researched, designed and manufactured.  A range of commercial Rehabilitation products are kept for display and loan to disabled trainees and students.  The staff also provides counselling in technical aids service.
    
Resource Unit
        The library of TARC contains reference books, documents and audio-visual materials on training and employment for disabled persons.  This unit also provides facilities and equipment for the production of audio-visual aids for teaching disabled trainees and special study accommodation for use by disabled students.
    
Location  

        TARC is located in Room 536 in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee campus) at 30 Renfrew Road, Kowloon Tong.  

How to Make Use of TARC
        The services of TARC are available, free of charge, to professionals and non-professionals who are engaged in vocational rehabilitation.  The opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily Monday to Friday.  Appointments outside office hours can also be arranged.  For further information please call Tel.
