In order to cope with the development of creative industry, and the training of world-class fundamental design talent in Hong Kong, VTC established the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) in 2007. The mission of HKDI is to be a leading international provider of foundation studies and lifelong learning in design.
With a rich heritage in design education through the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), HKDI brings together the strengths of various departments to offer disciplines including product design, interior design, visual communications, fashion and textile design, printing and digital media, filming, computer games, toy design, jewellery design, watch design, optical accessories, and multimedia.
HKDI offers comprehensive and contemporary design curricula, from entry level at foundation, to Higher Diploma, and onto Degree level in collaboration with overseas University partners.
Currently programmes are delivered in the related IVE campuses and a new purpose-built central campus is being erected and planned to commence operation in 2010/11.
