The Vocational English Course (VEC) for Senior Secondary Students is offered by the Vocational Language Programme Office and is designed

  • to develop the target learners’ English proficiency with the use of well-designed tasks and activities in vocational contexts;
  • to promote explicit teaching of specific English knowledge and skills to help target learners meet the demands of the workplace;
  • to enhance learners’ confidence and interest in using English; and
  • to provide learners with an alternative qualification for admission to Higher Diploma programmes offered by the Vocational Training Council (VTC)

Target Learners
Secondary 4 and Secondary 5 students in the 2019/20 school year

Admission requirement:
Module 1,2 & 3: having attained a pass in the placement test
Module 4 & 5: having attained a pass in at least one of the QF Level 2 modules (i.e. Module 1,2 or 3)

Recognised Qualifications

The 5 VEC modules have been accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and are benchmarked with the Hong Kong Vocational English Programme (HKVEP) which operates under the auspices of the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry International Qualifications (LCCIIQ).

Each learner who obtains an attendance of 70% or above with an overall pass in the module will receive:

a QF-recognised Certificate in Vocational English issued by the VTC ; and
a Language Performance Report issued by the HKVEP

Each learner who passes all the 5 modules will receive:

a Certificate issued by the LCCI IQ; and
a programme completion certificate

On successful completion of all the 5 modules, learners will be recognized to have attained the English requirement through the special admission quota for non-standard entry to local sub-degree programmes for admission to Higher Diploma programmes offered by the VTC (in AY2019/20, VTC offers 9000+ places across a wide range of Higher Diploma programmes).  Applications will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.
