General Entry Requirements

Craft (or Post-

Secondary 3/4)

Courses

The general minimum entry requirement for all craft courses is completion of Secondary 3; however, a few courses in the Commercial Studies, General Studies, Textile Industries and Clothing Technology disciplines only admit applicants who have completed Secondary 4 or above.
Bridging Courses The minimum entry requirements are either completion of a relevant craft course or completion of Secondary 3/4.
Technician (or

Post-Secondary 5)

Courses

The general minimum entry requirement is four subjects at grade E or above in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination; however, some courses may stipulate additional requirements. Many courses also admit graduates who have completed the General Courses or Technician Preparatory Certificate Courses in the institute.
Short Courses The entry requirements vary widely from no formal entry requirement to that of possession of a relevant technical qualification plus relevant working experience.

Note : An applicant who has reached 23 years of age on 1 September of the year of application, not meeting the minimum entry requirement for a particular course, may be considered for admission as a mature applicant.

Admission Arrangements

Full-time Courses The selection of students into craft courses through open recruitment is by entrance examination and/or interview. Selection of students into technician courses is usually based on the results obtained in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and interviews. Candidates may be required to attend an assessment interview in certain disciplines such as Design, Hotel-keeping and Tourism Studies, etc.
Bridging Courses Applicants must either have completed a relevant craft course or Secondary 3/4.
Part-time Day-release

Courses

Students must be sponsored by employers or be attending appropriate industry training centre courses.
Part-time Evening

Courses

The selection of students into craft courses is by entrance examination and/or interview. Admission of students into technician courses is based on the results obtained in public examinations. Candidates may also be required to attend an interview or aptitude test. The relevance of the candidates' employment and work experience to the course they apply for will also be considered in the selection process.
Short Courses Qualified applicants are normally admitted on a first-come-first-served basis
