Youth Construction Discovery Challenge
invites proposals for a dream school

Secondary students can also design their dream schools! More than a hundred secondary students who have joined the “Youth Construction Discovery Challenge” can now get a taste of being an architect. A briefing for the participants of the competition was held on 12 November (Saturday) to announce the competition rules. Professionals of the construction industry were also invited to provide the participants with tips in coming up with proposals for a dream school.

The competition is co-organised by the VTC Building and Civil Engineering Training Board, Construction Industry Council, construction associations and professional institutes. Open for applications in September this year, the competition met with overwhelming response with over 50 teams comprising more than 400 secondary students submitting applications. Coached by professionals of the industry, the teams are required to submit a proposal for a construction project to improve their own school and present their models before the panel adjudicators by May 2012.

The competition provides an opportunity for secondary students to showcase their creativity and develop team spirit as well as to exchange with experienced industry practitioners, gaining valuable insights and widening their exposure. It also enables the students to increase their understanding of the various professions in the industry, attracting them to develop their future careers in the trade.
