IVE lecturer was awarded Outstanding Youth ICT Achiever
“The electronic and information engineering industry is interesting and full of opportunities. I wish to promote it to young people to attract more entrants to the technology sector.” Jordan CHENG said. A lecturer in electronic and information engineering at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), also his alma mater, Mr Cheng has led students through various open competitions with flying colours and collaborated with industry people to drive the development of the technology industry. He was presented the Outstanding Youth ICT Achiever Award for his contributions to the industry.
Mr Cheng graduated from the Higher Diploma in Computer Engineering course of the IVE, went on to complete a degree programme with a local university and then returned to the IVE to teach students on the professional knowledge of apps development in 2009. Apart from classroom teaching, Mr Cheng also actively encouraged his students to take part in open competitions and led them to win over 20 prizes. Separately he co-developed mobile phone game apps with students which were actualised by a large phone manufacturer for the public to download. Outside the campus, he has provided expert views on developing apps for industry people of Hong Kong and Macau. He also serves as a member of executive committee of industry organisation for advancement of the industry.
Mr Cheng was delighted at the bestowal of the Achiever Award. He said he was able to grasp the techniques for designing professional computer programmes and the hardware back in his study days at the IVE, which steeled his resolve in pursuing career development in the electronic and information engineering industry. The Outstanding Youth ICT Achiever Award was presented by the Hong Kong Computer Society with emphasis on the innovativeness and contributions to society of the nominees. He was one of the 3 awardees this year.
