Professional Mentorship Programme

Established by the Department of Business Administration of IVE (Chai Wan) in 2004, the Professional Mentorship Programme (PMP) aims at extending the learning of our students beyond the scope of their regular course curriculum through a network of external mentors who are business practitioners.

Entering the fifth anniversary in 2008/09, the Programme has already attracted more than 1,400 students to join as mentees. Through a series of structured activities and gatherings, mentors of the Programme give our students individualattention and guidance to realize their full potentials helping them to develop both academically and socially.

The Programme received support not only from individual mentors, but also from professional organizations in the community including the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Hong Kong, the Chartered Institute of Marketing (HK), the VTC Accountancy and Financial Services Alumni Association and the VTC Marketing and Advertising Alumni Association. The Department of Business Administration will continue to invite more professional organizations to support the Programme so as to achieve a sustainable growth.

Programme Objectives

This programme aims at providing Mentees with an additional avenue of learning by tapping the vast professional experience offered by the Mentors.

The essence of this programme is to nurture a positive and supportive bonding between Mentors and Mentees through a number of interactive activities. Mentors will have opportunities to share and provide guidance in domains of academic, professional and career developments to Mentees.

Programme Description

There are various activities recommended for Mentor-Mentee interactions, some of which are organized by the Department, including opening and closing ceremonies, culturally and educationally enriching activities events such as 'Meeting the Professionals' and visits. Specific dates for these activities will be announced later. In addition, Mentees can interact with Mentors in a group, or via emails, fax or telephone conversations.

Frequency of interactions depends on schedules of both Mentors and Mentees. It is expected that there would be two or three interactions per year. Generally, Mentees initiate interactions with Mentors and prepare records on these interactions. These records are to be lodged with the Department as indicative progress reports. The teams are encouraged to find ways to gain insights from the mentoring relationship. The key is to take part and be active.

Mentors will be accorded recognition for their voluntary service and contribution to the Department with a Certificate of Appreciation. Mentees who have completed the Programme will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.
