Higher Diploma Programmes enable graduates to progress to university through the non-JUPAS route. Students may be given exemption for relevant individual courses and therefore a much shorter time will be needed to complete the degree programme. Alternatively Higher Diploma graduates can apply for degree programmes offered by The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEI), a member institution of the VTC. Starting from 2012, THEI will provide career-oriented degree programmes for HKDSE graduates. THEI is planning to admit sub-degree graduates with advanced standing in 2014. . Other than the options stated above, Higher Diploma graduates can apply for top-up degree programmes offered by the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) – one of the member institutions of the VTC, in collaboration with prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, the Mainland and Hong Kong. An extensive selection of programmes are provided including accounting and finance, applied science, business and management, Chinese medicinal pharmaceutics, computing and information technology, design, engineering as well as hospitality, tourism and leisure. You may find more programme details at the SHAPE website. The IVE and HKDI Higher Diplomas are well recognised by overseas universities. Graduates may be granted exemptions in relevant modules and hence, a much shorter time needed to complete the degree programme. More than 9,000 IVE/HKDI graduates weresuccessfully enrolled in university in the last 3 years, of which more than 40% were admitted to local universities.
