The Applied Learning (ApL) course is an initiative of the Education Bureau (EDB) to cater to the diverse learning needs and interests of senior secondary school students (Secondary 5 and Secondary 6). VTC has been actively supporting the Government in this initiative since its first pilot scheme in the school year of 2003/04 by offering a wide range of vocational courses through its Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and Hospitality Industry Training & Development Centre (HITDC).
To help promote and integrate Applied Learning in secondary schools, VTC has devised a partnership scheme for closer collaboration with schools to provide professional training for the teachers to keep abreast with the latest knowledge and development on the specific subject area, strengthen understanding in the operation, teaching and learning progress of ApL courses for the purpose of classroom teaching.
VTC has also developed the ApL Professional Development Programme (PDP) to equip secondary school teachers and industrial parties with necessary skills for teaching ApL courses, including lesson observation activities and related professional training for teachers. VTC is also prepared to partner with secondary schools to provide ApL courses.
