An overview of the Qualifications Framework (QF)
Introduced by the Education Bureau (EDB), the Qualifications Framework (QF) is a cross-sectoral hierarchy covering qualifications in the academic, vocational and continuing education sectors. Under the QF, the employee’s knowledge, skills and experience accumulated at work can also be recognized through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism. Consisting of seven levels, the QF is underpinned by an associated quality assurance mechanism. All quality-assured qualifications will be posted onto the Qualification Register (QR), a centralised on-line database for reference by the general public. With well defined standards of qualifications and articulation ladders, the QF enables people to set clear goals and direction for attaining quality-assured qualifications.
VTC qualifications linked with the QF
VTC is firmly committed to promoting lifelong learning through the provision of quality vocational education and training opportunities, thereby enhancing the overall competitiveness of the local workforce. As a staunch supporter of the QF, VTC has helped in formulating the specifications of competency standards for various industries. It has also been appointed as the Assessment Agency for the RPL Scheme. To learn more about RPL Scheme, please visit the Recognition of Prior Learning website.
The curriculum structure and contents of VTC courses are designed with reference to the specifications of competency standards under QF. As VTC has gained the Programme Area Accreditation status from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, many VTC courses have been posted onto the QR. The clear and flexible progression pathways within VTC are essential to students in their pursuit of lifelong learning. They can draw up their own road maps to upgrade themselves with VTC’s quality-assured programmes and attain higher qualifications. |
