IVE Engineering Discipline Job Fair 2012


The thriving engineering industry is generating a huge demand for manpower. At the 2-day job fair organised by the Engineering Discipline of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) in the Chai Wan campus starting today (14 June), over 80 establishments set up booths providing more than 1,200 engineering-related full-time vacancies, which yielded a monthly average of HK$11,000 with the highest salary up to HK$20,000.  
 
The participating establishments were from a range of engineering sectors like civil engineering, architectural engineering, surveying, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and industrial engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering. Jobs on offer included engineer, assistant engineer, technician and engineering project co-ordinator, all of which were suitable for higher diploma graduates of the IVE engineering programmes.
       
Benefitting from the launch of large infrastructural projects, average salary of the construction engineering jobs reached HK$13,500. A geotechnical firm offered as high as HK$20,000, recruiting over 40 site laboratory technicians who would sample and inspect building materials at building sites, write inspection reports and repair laboratory equipment. There was also a contractor of the construction engineering sector who recruited some 30 assistant engineers with the starting salary exceeding HK$13,000. Jobs offered by other engineering sectors also start from an average of HK$10,000 including those of the electrical and electronic engineering, and mechanical, manufacturing and industrial engineering. 
   
The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) is a member of VTC Group. The 9 IVE campuses are located across the territory. Together they provide vocational education for secondary 7 graduates and secondary 6 graduates under the new academic structure as well as people in employment. IVE courses leading to the award of higher diploma, diploma or foundation diploma cover various academic disciplines including Applied Science; Business Administration; Child Education and Community Services; Information Technology; Engineering; and Hotel, Service and Tourism Studies.
