Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) will hold their Open Days on three consecutive Fridays and Saturdays starting from 25 November. On the theme “Your Choice Your Future”, the open days will showcase campus facilities and offer visitors insights into the study life of students from different disciplines. Talks and workshops will also be held to demonstrate the strengths of vocational education and training.
 
The Open Days for IVE (Tsing Yi) and IVE (Tuen Mun) will be held this week, during which a Pneumatic Drive Bicycle developed by students and a RFID-based Wine Inventory Management System will be on display. The Pneumatic Drive Bicycle displayed at IVE (Tsing Yi) is an environmentally friendly vehicle of the new era. It saves manpower and does not pollute the environment. At IVE (Tuen Mun), there will be a demonstration on how RFID can help manage wine inventory to cope with the development of Hong Kong into a wine hub.
 
Nowadays, people are getting more conscious about health and green living. In view of this, the Open Day of IVE (Chai Wan) to be held next week will display various kinds of green products, and demonstrations will be held on how to reduce kitchen waste such as making facial masks out of chestnut skin and egg white, and soap out of cooking oil. A talk on biotechnology will also be held on the differentiation of real and fake Chinese medicine and dried seafood. At the Open Day of IVE (Sha Tin), free body checks will be provided for visitors, and experts will be invited to host a talk on food safety to ensure that everybody has a healthy diet.
 
At its Open Day, IVE (Lee Wai Lee) will present "Rhapsody of light and sound”, which leads visitors to experience the ever-changing audio-visual effects on stage. A series of 3D digital realistic rendering workshops will be organised for visitors especially young people who loves animation to experience the process of creating an animation. Visitors are welcome to view the students’ designs on display at HKDI, including illustrations of Hong Kong in the past.
    
During the open days,booths and briefings will be arranged at the campuses to provide course information on IVE and HKDI and answer enquiries related to study. To facilitate the public, teachers and students of IVE’s Engineering Discipline have developed a mobile app on IVE/HKDI Open Days through which the public can make reservations for course briefings or group tours.
