HKDI students bestowed the Architecture & Design Trophy Awards

22 January 2015

Students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) won the Best Category Award and two Merit Awards of the Product Design Category in the Student Category of the A&D Trophy Awards (previously named as The Perspective Awards). Through encouraging students to participate in competitions, VTC provides opportunities for students to develop their potential, gain practical experiences and get better equipped to enter the design industry in the future.

Greta KWOK is current graduate student of the HKDI Higher Diploma in Product Design programme. Her brain child “Breathe” won  the Best Category Award of the Product Design Category in the A&D Trophy Awards. Considering that a lot of blood donors feel dizzy and nervous when they donate blood, which affect their intention for their next donation; Greta designed the dedicated “Breathe” to ease their dizziness. What donors have to do is to place their hands on “Breathe” installed into the chair in advance, through the up and down movements of which donors have their pulse regulated. Greta felt so excited to win at her first competition since she successfully applied the design ideas learnt to her work and her presentation was recognised by the panel judges. The experience boosted her trade knowledge and made her determined to become a product designer in future.

Apart from Greta, two other HKDI graduates won Merit Awards from the Interior Design Category and the Architecture Category.  Noting that most Hong Kong people lead busy lives, NIP Yau-chi designed a complex comprising book store, tearoom, art and exhibition area and café, etc. that provides people with a corner to rest and relax.

HKDI student TAI Yeung’s showcase “Climb the Park” won the Merit Award in the Architecture Category. His design concept is to refurbish the rock climbing centre inside the park into a passenger route, connecting the park and the environment nearby.  This gives a brand new experience of park visits to the public.

The Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is a member of VTC Group. HKDI was established in 2007 with the mission to be a leading provider of design education and lifelong learning. It brings together the strengths of design departments of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) to encourage synergy and interdisciplinary thinking in its broad range of design programmes. HKDI maintains a strong network with industry and provides its students with essential practical experience enriched with cultural sensitivities and sustainability. The campus in Tiu Keng Leng provides a creative, inspiring and vibrant learning environment for students.
