Talk Series offer advice for fostering a better parent-child relationship

3 March 2016

As they grow up, young people face many challenges, with examinations, peer pressure and family expectations just some examples. However, if parents can better understand their children, empathise and work with them, many potential problems can be minimised.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is to hold its yearly Parents’ Talk series over March and April. Comprising three talks, Parents’ Talk 2016 will address, from a variety of perspectives, the key issues young people face regarding their studies, social networking and growing up generally.  (Please refer to Annex 1.)

At the first talk on 19 March (Saturday), Clinical Psychologist Annie HO will examine young people’s psychological needs and share how to develop positive values under the theme “Unleashed Potential, Enlightened Life Journey”.

Scheduled for 9 April (Saturday), the second talk will be delivered by Joseph TSANG from the Hong Kong Association of Career Masters and Guidance Masters under the title “DSE Guide For Parents”, to help parents plan progression pathways with their children, utilising the latest intelligence and data from the field of education.

Then on 23 April (Saturday), Family Therapist Dr Benjamin WAT will speak on the theme “Parental Communication Under Digital Age”, where he will analyse the habits of young people on social media and help parents understand the latest developments in this area and build close relationships with their children both on and offline.

Admission to the talks is free. Parents are welcome. Interested parties can register online at www.vtc.edu.hk/ero/talk or call 2836 1098 for enquiries.
