THEi confers bachelor’s degrees on over 700 graduates at the THEi Graduation Ceremony Providing new blood for industries

7 December 2018

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), a member institution of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), held its 3rd graduation ceremony today (7 December), conferring bachelor’s degrees on some 730 graduates.

Officiating at the graduation ceremony were Guests of Honour including Chairperson of Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association Amy CHAN, Emeritus President of UNESCO Hong Kong Association Professor Patrick LAU and Chairman of Build King Holdings Derek ZEN.

VTC Chairman Dr Roy CHUNG, Deputy Chairman Conrad WONG and Executive Director Carrie YAU presented the graduates with their degree certificates. Dr Chung noted in his welcome address that THEi graduates are highly sought after across industries, with an impressive employment rate of over 90%. Dr Chung said, “Employers compliment THEi graduates for having good hands-on skills, positive attitudes and a high level of adaptability. This is only achievable with the support of more than 300 companies that offer internships to THEi students. In fact, many of our graduates were hired by the internship employers because of their good performance during the internship period.” Dr Chung advised graduates to be curious and be bold, so as to rise to challenges and keep embracing a lifelong passion for learning.

The graduates conferred with THEi degrees today come from more than ten programmes of the Faculties of Design and Environment, Management and Hospitality, and Science and Technology. Among them, seven programmes marked their first cohort of graduates this year, namely Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hotel Operations Management, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Professional Accounting, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Surveying, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information and Communications Technology, and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Multimedia Technology and Innovation. In other words, more talent from different specialisms will be able to contribute to society in the future. Many guests attended the ceremony today to share their happiness with the graduates including parents and industry representatives.
